This is the 14 bore (.69 cal) rifle that shot the previous group posted.
It is very similar to an English Sporting Rifle of the 1850 period. Also made by my bro, back in 1986.
A plinking load, for shooting trail walks and well, plinking, is a mere 85gr. 2F. My moose load for this rifle, is 165gr. 2F, with the same ball, normally .682" in diameter.
The velocity for the plinking load is a mere 1,200fps, while the moose load produces 1,550fps. The ball weight is 482gr. A 15 bore ball (.675") which I also shoot when I want
to shoot a hardened ball, weighs 440gr. I also have a 16 bore ball mould, which casts a .662" ball, in pure lead, weighs 7,000 divided by 16(bore) = 437.5gr. With thick enough
patches, these also shoot passably well.
The bottom picture is my late hunting buddy Brad, holding this rifle. Brad passed in 2010. I haven't hunted moose or deer since. Lost the drive.
