Not trying to change the Target Shooting section into some purist weirdness, I'm just a new guy trying to shoot well.

Having astigmatism and non-fighter pilot eyesight, as well as suffering from being mortal, I decided that controlling the amount of light in my eyes is kinda important to shooting. I bought a pair of target shooting glasses from our Canadian pro outfitter, Targets or Cibles.

Image

Olympic shooters do not wear funny glasses for no reason. They intelligently decided to.

Image

As a result, my laser training in terrible LED lighting conditions was partially remedied but finally I could resolve the question of "Can I affect the lighting discomfort?"

The goal is to shoot well. I'm at a disadvantage and so putting these VARGA glasses on which my Freudian brain sees as Viagra helps for real. Pun intended.

Image

We are just airgunners not fashion models. Controlling light matters.

Image

You tell me .. do I look stupid? I'm sure if you search your objective feelings, that I look like a dude that can control the light to his eyes.

I can control the light getting to my eyes. Can you?

They sit in front of my glasses just fine. That's something you will NEVER see anywhere else because Olympian Shooters don't typically need corrective glasses. Those that do however, can get a lens made. Sitting the VARGA glasses atop my normal prescription glasses feels great and I'm not upgrading. Those that have the means, and drive for competition can get specialized lenses.

EDIT: Yes I blew off the dust from the glasses. Those fins in the iris are too precise for human fingers. Those are "DO NOT TOUCH" .. unless you want to spend 200$ ... so I sprayed some air on them.

Those are so nice. Do you look stupid? Well we all do but it's part of the fun. Now go do those glasses proud and print some center 10's.

Hitting those 10s in the heart of chaos!!! That's a loud resounding NO! Not stupid at all ... but maintaining the passion to is very important!

Keep us posted jckstrthmghty, seriously. PM me your status ... as a forum member, I'm intrigued dude.

Ego is not something that will happen in this forum. We're going to have fun and get people more involved in the sport.

... and then I'll beat you all. hehe.

I wished people would post more normal stuff on the forum, like misses, or accidents, or humbly posting sessions where things aren't great .. etc.. It's ok to miss the target, perhaps there's more to talk about with misses.

For a shooter when shooting looks fine. To wear to the store yes, yeah, stupid.
I've never seen glasses with an adjustable iris before this.
My aperture sight has the iris, where it should be.
Those glasses are something new to me. Obviously, for shooting open sights.
I did not know they were allowed in competition 10 meter shooting.

Allowed or not in competition, they are a welcome addition at my place! There are no competition aspirations here, just trying to be my best.

Hey that's a nice sight! Tweakable aperture?

Looks way more swanky than what comes stock on the Daisy 753! (LOL)

Yeah yeah and get a job too right? lol.

Thank you, yes they help. I can't see myself shooting pistols without these at this point. The blind is great for rifles and the iris perfect for pistols.

Not sure on the competition legality of it all, but one thing is for sure, they don't provide any magnification, so it's still all "me".

I know you mock-up a few pairs of your own and seen the benefits.

Nothing beats cry once and purchase the pro stuff.

Very nice!

For pistol competition at 10M, I do not believe any serious shooter would be without these glasses. I went to my Optician and took a ruler with bit sticking up from it that looked like a front sight. The distance to the bit was exactly the distance to my front sight on my pistol when I was holding it, ready to fire. Didn't think he would appreciate me bringing a gun to his office. He made a prescription lens that focused perfectly at that distance and fitted it into my lens holder for the shooting glasses. That lens, plus the adjustable iris made shooting much easier, but also took away a number of my excuses for not doing well.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, are all/most 10M competition shooters "near sighted"?

If a person is "far sighted" then 10M focus is "child's play" so in this case, these optics would only be useful to adjust the amount of light?

I'm just trying to fully understand the purpose!

I deleted "Get a haircut" from my first answering post. That was the first thing came to mind after seeing the picture.
A Great Aunt of mine, one of Dad's sisters from the old country, disowned me at a BQ at their place in Langley because
as I was introduced to her grandson, I said "get a haircut punk". LOL That was about 1974 when I was a policeman.

I did. The mock-up pairs still work but the adjustable aperture/iris is something I don't want to be without anymore. Too much light? ... tweak iris. Can't find your sight because iris too small? (Lol) ... increase size.

Yes it was a long decision process spanning months. "Should I spend 250$ on target glasses?" .. the question that kept bouncing around in my head. Once the weather turned and the outside range became inaccessible and all I had left was laser training, then it was clear that indoor lighting would be contended with all winter.

My rifle score is already increasing even though the iris isn't used for that. The pistol scores are getting more consistent, and so that's nothing to sneeze at.

Thank ya. Still ain't gonna cut my hair however. Long hair and rock guitar playing go hand-in-hand.

You are certainly right about taking away excuses. Can't blame this or that anymore. You have the glasses, a line of sight ... nothing left but to hit that 10. ;)

Since getting the glasses, they've been on my face 3 hours a day.
