Just got that FX doppler crony to get the fps of my guns. Looks like a finicky bastard! Some register and a lot don't. I put the device under the barrel and try different positions, as suggested: 2" from the muzzle and farther back if it doesn't work. The rifles that don't work have a plastic part that cover the muzzle. The one that do work all have a "clean cut barrel" shrouded or not. So that's the difference that I spotted between the dos and the don't. Any ideas what to do or check next?

Well~ You bought it new? They finally have some stocks now?? :)

I usually mounted mine about 3 to 4 inches from the muzzle. Like below is where I mounted it on my FX with an aftermarket Pica rail adapter. Thinking it could be the max distance to the muzzle, about 6 inches. Anyway it can still register more than 90% of the shots I made.

Image

And did you setup the parameters properly? Especially the profile about the potential muzzle speed of your gun?

You did Read something right? Try to put that number in the middle of the ranger you are going to use...

I tuned my M3 in high 600ish to 700fps, so I use the below speed range...

Image

I can also use the last one 590fps to max. However If I used the one above, 290fps to 720fps, I could lost quite a few shots I believe...

90% hey! So it IS finicky. After reading your post I retried the pistols and got them to register by going from air pistol to CO2 pistol! Well, go figure. So now there's the rifle part to solve... so I went back again and got two that weren't working to register by futzing more with the location of the device... first way back, then more to the front and I used the UK setting. So now I guess it's working (gotta try the rest but not today). But I wonder why the red (battery) light comes on: batteries are new and of the right type. Could it be the vibration? And I don't know yet if the connection is lost when the red light appears. More experiments are necessary but now we could say I'm over the hill and into fine tuning. Thanks.

Some chronographs are more finicky than others about position, etc.
Figure them out, then they should work 99% of the time. If not, the unit
is defective or perhaps it is you who are the problem.
I don't have one of those FX units, but have had 4 different chronographs, starting in 1974 with an Oehler M12 and ALL have worked perfectly
including the new(2yrs. old now) Caldwell I "just" bought.

Don't worry about the red light... I found it's a bit sensitive to the voltage output of the battery... Anyway I am using rechargeable batteries so they born a little lower voltage like 1.2V not 1.5V... So in my case about the batteries have 80% remains I started seeing the red lights and most of the time the red light works with me together~ [emoji38]

If the batteries are out, you won't see any light.... So just leave it like that~

###
And choose your speed profile according to the actual speed and don't be fooled by the description it provided... There's no Canadian detuned model of this FX pocket Chrono~ So you won't see a profile like "sub 500fps" and "PAL rated"... [emoji38]

Yeah~ have to admit the old school chronies and the expensive professional Chrono are better performance without doubt...

The FX Chrono is just like something it mentioned at the very beginning when FX introduced this to public... It's a "pocket" Radar Chrono... So its selling point is convenient. Easy to carry, Easy to use, Easy to connect to your phone or tablets etc...

And the newer model, the V2 is around the corner now for us Canadian...just don't know who's be the first one to get the stock and start selling it here...

It's just even smaller and built-in rechargeable battery... Still not mentioned it had any improvement to guarantee a 99% register rate of shots etc like that... But just more convenient, easier to connect, easier to carry, easier to use... :)

I'm thinking now, if I buy an FX Chronograph, it will be the bench model - something around $1,000.00.
I cannot see putting out almost $300.00 or more on an airgun only chronograph.

AGS - $1,349.00 I see. I'll think about it. The "mad money" is a mite low, right now.
Been buying more fishing stuff for next summer. LOL I should also get a better depth sounder.
Already have 2, but, well, you know, more features in the more expensive ones, just
like chronographs.

Interesting: "Measure projectile speeds from 100 fps to 5,000 fps."
$600.00 US.

Picks up the shot way better than the other radar chronos apparently and can do downrange speed/calculate actual BC etc. I'm likely getting one this year.
Being able to chrono during a practice session rather than having to waste ammo just shooting over the chrono is a big deal these days.

I shoot targets every time I'm chronographing, with the "old" light screen models I have.
The Caldwell is quite new.
