I am just wondering how everyone came to enjoy this hobby. I guess a lot of people got it from their fathers or maybe older brothers.

Not really... No brother, and my father doesn't shoot... I just like guns, knifes and flash lights.... [emoji38]

It was a guy on our club's range. He had to show me his guns, the groups on his target, and took the time to explain to me what he was doing. It was all his fault. Talking about bad influence.

I've always liked guns. When I was much younger, I didn't have a P.A.L yet, once I learned that you can have bb/pellet guns under 500fps without a license, that was it.

Walking past them at Canadian Tire about 24 years ago and handling a few of them and never looked back.

Also this forum definitely 'added fuel to the fire', but it was an AOL or Yahoo forum (can't remember which one) back then before it became this website.

I have two lathes I have used for the last 40 years to build powder burners. About 15 years ago my wife and I were in Tool Town buying a few tarps for the woodpile. There was a B1 break barrel with a wood stock on sale for $24.99. I said "I used to have one of those when I was a kid". My wife said "Why don't you buy it?" The rest, as they say, is history. I haven't built a powder burner for myself since.
I still have the B1.

I received my first gun when I was 6 years old - a springer cork gun so that I could go pheasant hunting with my dad & his dogs. I"ve had various guns ever since. When my mom passed a few years ago, I found this same air gun in her stuff and I still have it - A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES!

I know I wasn't in school yet so I'm guessing 4yrs or 5yrs old max, I received a suction cup dart spring pistol.....I remember licking the cup and called my mom and shot her dead center between the eyes from across the kitchen. I got my arse beat and never saw the gun again.... :lol: :lol:

It looked similar to this one. Image

@WoodWelder

When I was 4, 5, 6, and 7 we lived in a town house complex right across the street from a mall. I would get my mother to buy me those plastic cap guns from the dollar store, then myself and my neighbor friend would go around and shoot up the whole complex, lol.

Those were fun times, around 1999-2002. Doubt kids could get away with that now.

As far back as I can remember I have always been enamoured with anything mechanical and precision. Only natural to be drawn towards firearms. No prior family history but my oldest sister and myself are avid shooters. I lean towards airguns more but not resticted to. I remember asking my dad endlessly for a bbgun, much to the chagrin of my mother and small creatures in my neighborhood.

It seems like there are quite a few childhood stories and memories about how people got into air guns. Also a lot of folks are mechanically inclined.
