Do these guns need tuning and or improvements or are they great right out of the box. I've done what I can with my Crosman's so I want to step up to REAL quality with a Weihrauch97K or TX200. Hopefully it's not too difficult to find breech and piston seals when the time comes.

In my opinion the 12fpe TX200 is about perfect stock. Didn't like it at higher power but that's just me.
Easiest rifle to work on ever too.

To my understanding and experience, the AA and Weihrauch are sure step up compare to Crosman without doubt.

Out of box they will be already much better than the Crosman and you can even still make it better to prefect or beyond by aftermarket parts and kits.

If you couldn't find the seals for HW97 or AA TX, that could means no other airguns can have spare parts anymore... :)

In my experience, TX200, accurate but clunky shot cycle. Tuning kit, silky smooth. Satisfying whack sound.

Both the HW97 and AA TX200 are very good springers. I agree with Grantmac that the TX200 in 12fpe is as good as it gets.

I only have the HW's, one in .177 and the other a .22. Love them both. No mods and have been shooting the .177 since about 2008 or so.
They have techniques in holding that they like and dislike, but seem less picky than other springers. Both of mine are 14.5fpe guns, so you
could say, full power. Holding or resting at the front of the forend or in the middle, only makes a difference in point of impact, not group size.
Same with the so-called Artillery Hold - different POI but no change to accuracy, thus for group shooting, they are not picky.
The .177 will easily shoot groups of 1/10" C to C while the .22 is not quite as accurate, making .2" groups quite normal at the same 20 yard distance.
Maybe I just haven't found the .22's best pellet yet. It's a newer rifle.
I have made groups with both rifles at 50', that a 5 shot group will not let a pellet drop through the hole. I would say from this, that they are
very accurate, straight out of the box.
I only shot the Air Arms TX200 at Olds Alberta, oh so many years ago. I did not like the needing 2 hands to unlock the lever after putting in the pellet
nor the small loading window. That was likely the BIGGEST detractor for me as I have large fingers and hands & the small loading "port" sucked.
This is a 30 meter, 5-shot group with the HW97 in .22. The reason I subtracted .20" from the overall "hole" was in this paper, the Hades pellets made a .20" hole
so subtracting the full .22 would have resulted in an erroneous, but of course, small group size to get the centre to centre measurement.

This is really a question you can only answer for yourself. If it is possible, try to shoot both. If you are located where you can get to a field target match, you would in all likelihood be able to try both guns. I have shot TX200 rifles for probably 20 years and since they are so easy to work on, I always do some tuning. Even if it is a good cleanout and putting good lubes in, it will smooth things some. I shoot with guys who swear by the HW97 and their shooting proves it is a good gun.

Bottom line is that the gun will choose you if you try them. One will just feel better to you for whatever reason and that is the one to buy. Choice is win-win in my mind.

Nuff said ...very nice...I just shoot small cans...the greater the distance the better and this gun should reach out to 75 yards .Judging by this group I should be hitting small soup cans almost every time... :D

Yeah~ I prefer the 97 slightly a little bit more than the AA (I don't have a TX but a Pro Sport). The 97 looks more like a all rounder and not picky on diets and shoots nicely every time I take it out from storage.

Mine is a 177 shooting about 11fpe.

And I have to admit the AA is a super easy gun to work on~ I need a claw hammer to work on my HW35 but just my bare hands on my PS...

I am debating getting one of these fine underlevers. I am debating between the HW77 and HW97 in .177. I actually wish Weihrauch would sell the HW97 with the forest green laminate stock from the HW77 special edition. I know they are interchangeable, but I can only imagine how hard it would be to find those stocks as spare parts or on the used market. :|

Cheers,
Dave

I also like that I can get these to avoid drilling into the stock to attach a sling swivel stud, on the HW97.
