Plastic aspirin and vitamin bottles make great targets ...you can shoot them 100's of times before they are all shot out. Cans are good for a dozen shots or so which gets problematic when you shoot just about every day. One can only eat so much canned food... :D

I like the sound of tin cans getting hit. Today I was out offhand plinking at 25, 50 and 75 yards. Targets were 398ml Bush bean cans. The rifle was a Crosman Phantom tuned to only 580fps with 8.64gr H&N FTT. At 25 I held over about 1/4 to 1/2 a mildot, at 50 it was 2 dots and 75 was 5 1/2 dots. Lots of fun. Lots of hits. High power isn’t needed for plinking. You just need a calm day without much wind.

… but my favourite target is homemade gongs, swingers and spinners. You can make them with thicker metal than cans so they last for thousands of shots. Thrift stores sometimes have something that works for a gong. I sometimes use a 3”x3” electrical box cover for a swinger. I hang it from a thick wire frame with a wood stand. Very portable and durable. Nice clank sound and swinging reaction. Washers can be used for spinners. If you know someone with a lathe they can cut thicker slices of cold rolled steel for spinners or swingers. They last forever.

Yeah I was out today too but only shooting at 45 yards..cans are great too because of the clank sound...I only shoot .22 now and those wads really give them a good whack. Big holes too. I shoot only to a max of 60 yards at 720 fps in .22...(Vantage)....I ran out of wadcutters though so hollow points are the next best thing for max can destruction..I wish someone local would carry .22 wadcutters....I'd buy a dozen tins at a time...

I'm using top and bottom of big can of ''Heinz'' ketchup, it it kind of thick and resist the whole session (BB gun that is) no big gun. It make a nice ping (nothing close to Hickok45 gong) distance about 10/11 yard's. The cover is held on the side of a cardboard box that catches any miss... Work's fine for me...

SilentMan... :drinkers:

Now you've sent me down memory lane... to Easter 2010.
4L motor oil plastic "bunny" target. We had fun plinking it at 20 yds. The kids had to hit the bunny before the egg hunt could begin. Thanksgiving they shot turkeys (balloons) before we could eat. I should have set up a Grinch for Christmas, but it never happened.

I bought one of the crows from dollarama, but it shattered - didn't last even 5 shots.

Yep~ the plastic bottle type stuffs are good plinking targets!

I like to shoot the Kinder egg shells! Smaller so good for closer distance~

And don't eat too much aspirin... That empty bottle is big one~

Even just the cap of the spray can is a good target~ smaller enough, jumps everywhere while being hit, and long lasting fun~ [emoji38]

I have that swinging target you (TCooper) made for me out by my woodpile. I've been whacking the heck out of it all winter. Sub-500 swing the target with a solid "smack" sound. 15fpe makes the swinger spin around four times with a smack that's louder than the gun. No richocets either; just shattered pellets.
I use the 1" target at only 14 meters. Easy to hit and very satisfying.

I like shooting tin cans too. The sound the pellet makes when hitting the bottom of the can through the open end of the can laying down makes a loud "pwok" sound that echoes around the lake. The can amplifies the sound. Much louder than hitting the outside of the can.

This thread just makes me smile. It brings back so many memories of the things that I have shot at over the years in the never ending quest for new, fun things to keep shooting interesting.
The other consideration is always "how to contain the mess". Targets that break (glass, etc.) look cool when you shoot them, but are a pain unless you are in the garbage dump (which used to be a fun place to shoot when I was a kid since you could find all kinds of fun things to shoot and never have to clean up afterwards).
Thanks for the Friday morning smile!

The rats from Dollarama are very robust and will take a lot of abuse of shots !
