Crosman Quest 500,
Break Barrel
Single Shot
.177 Caliber

After over 4500 shots i haven't had any problems, and with little to no maintenance. Purchased from Ellwood Epps north of Orillia for 98$. I have put scope mounts and a tasco 3-9x40 on it and at 10m you can hit an army man every shot. At 20m i can probably hit 66% and up (however that might not be the guns fault but my poor shooting). This is my first and favorite gun in my collection right now. you can hit army men at 30m, but be prepared to miss the first few. longest effective distance so far is 52m (shooting at a 5"x5" box). The barrel doesn't like to be moist or in med to high humid areas, rusts easy. outside only, inside of barrel is clear.

Pros:
-Big stock (I'm 6'2" so it fits my hands well)
-495fps (so you can shoot it almost anywhere with no real problems)
-Accurate
-Dependable, (not much maintenance needed)
-Clean looking
-Very clear sights (they are the bright red and green ones)
-Adjustable trigger
-Rated .25" ctc at 10m (at 10m the gun could shoot all the pellets into hole smaller then 1/2")

Cons:
-Big stock ( if you have small hands or are short it might be awkward)
-EZ Rust barrel

Recommendations:
I use Daisy Accupel pellets and its seems to keep the groupings tighter then the Diabolo boxers i was using before.

Overall a Great gun. I would recommend it to beginner and intermediate shooters. I think advanced shooters would like a CO2 gun better. I rate it a 9 out of 10. I don't know what they could improve on it other then coating the barrel not to rust.

After you use it put a coat of gul oil on the barrel surface, and on all other bluing and you shouldn't have a problem.

How about takedown power for small to medium birds?

In my opinion the 500 is not enough power to successfully take anything more then a small bird. But not every airgunner shoots at animals either. The model Quest #800 would be better for hunting purposes. Good right-up on the Quest #500 though... :)

Krazy Mike...

Hello
I would have to agree with Mike. I don't think I would shoot anything alive with it. It just doesn't have the power to make a quick kill. Now if its last resort for a field mouse at point blank or something? sure. But taking down a tree rat, not a hope. I am considering the quest 800 so if i get one i will try to get a good review on it. but its a pal rated gun, so there are a few more hoops to get it.
good luck with your choice
Jeremy
