I saw one of those viper air shotguns at the Elmira show....Looks interesting enough.... The fellow had some of those shells on the table marked at $8 a box....He mentioned that they could be reloaded with the shot and cardboard caps placed on the ends of the shell to hold it in place....Never tried one myself, so I'm going by what other who have are saying....

has anyone seen those .22 shot shells ....?
I was looking at them at SIR; it is my understanding that they are not for AG's in general, but explicitly for the Gamo Viper.

Neat concept, but I really question the actual hunting effectiveness.
Maybe bugbusting, but I couldn't imagine much else.

Are they made of Lead ? If not, they most likely would totally damage a barrel up good. And who was selling them at the Elmira Show because I did not see them anywhere's. And I saw everything almost :( But that would be like $8.cnd for 25 shells eh ?

Mike...

haha. probably...i just went under the assumption that they could fit in any Air rifle and you could just shoot them and have a nice spread affect if it came to bird shooting or somethin like that....mind you im a complelte amature so i probably have no idea what im talkin about ha..

How about sibling rivalry personal defense, or for domestic mischievous purposes.

With those shells, there is not near enough shot to get a decent spread. Also the shot is way too small to do anything with what is there. And, the energy of each projectile is very low. You're better off shooting with a single pellet and missing than hitting a target with one or two pieces of that shot and not getting a clean kill.

Yeah i can see that happening...but what about a very high FPS ..like 700's-1000's ..maybe they would have more affect with a high speed?

different and a 22 cal,which i collect.
the power is not real great but like i said it is different.
shooting a 22 pellet from the gun gves around 650 fps if i am not mistaken

The high speed would actually hinder them. The high speed would cause over penetration and leave the animal less wounded because the projectile would just exit, instead of causing internal damage. Plus, the shot does not expand at all..

ohhh...so it wouldn't leave a bunch of holes it will just leave one big one going right through the target?

Not really.. The spread is too wide for that, but there is not enough shot to make the wide spread worth anything. You're most likely just to get one or two pieces of shot to hit. (With a very low FPE.)
