Hi all again. So, I have just entered the world of CO2 powered airguns, mainly a Crossman Vigilante. So, the reason for this post is to ask what kind of scope or sight can I put on my gun? I do know that a regular type scope for a .22 caliber rifle or better should not be used on a springer as the recoil apparently damages the scopes. But now that I have a CO2 powered gun, do I still have to worry about what I buy as I do not believe the 'double recoil' happens with an air powered gun? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I am thinking along the lines of a decent quality Red Dot sight or similar for a real handgun, NOT the cheaper ones designed for a pellet gun. This too also goes unless someone happens to say that the cheaper one would be good enough. I am not a competitive shooter, but rather plinking on the weekends with friends at the cottage. Say 100 rounds a weekend would be lots, more than likely 60-80. Thank you. Plus this gun has mounting available both above and below the barrel if this helps with recommendations. |

I'm not a fan of pistol scopes. Maybe it's just my old eyes but I'm used to lining up my eye behind the eyepiece of a scope mounted on a rifle. You can't look through a pistol scope in the same manner. I think there are specific scopes for pistols. And you are correct neos, only spring powered airguns are rough on scopes. I have a couple of Reflex and Red Dot sights on my CO2 pistols. I like them for quick target acquisition.  Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Good news. Not that's what I was hoping for as I like what you have for sight. I may try it on my Vigilante, but want to just shoot it first this weekend. Thank you. |

While a decent shooter, I don't think a Vigilante is worthy of a top-notch dot sight that can cost in the hundreds of dollars. A cheap one will be fine -- from Canadian Tire or another local store where you can measure the amount of rail the scope requires. I say this because the Vigilante, as you know, is a break-barrel revolver, and some red dots will require too much rail to allow you to break and close the barrel. |

Thank you for the advice. I had forgotten about the break barrel part. I should have rephrased my statement of quality. I was going to look at around $100, but have since found a cheap one like you suggested. I also like the idea of cheaper as I may not like it on this gun. Anyways, thanks again for the help. |

I have a Burris fastfire 1 that I got used, it's nice and very light, works great.

....Betcha' go through more than 100 shots at the cottage ,....better stock up on CO2 and pellets , try some different types .. flat. pointed, hollowpoint .... Like Lays chips, once you start, well ...ask anyone here......... |
