I've been using a shoebox faithfully for a couple of years now . Recently the max has been plagued with issues mostly from moisture . I'll have both sides of the compressor completely rebuilt once parts arrive and would like opinions on this compressor outlet filter or maybe suggestions on what others are using. http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/a ... -p8055757e. I know it's not top quality , and don't have an issue with that. I would have a particulate filter after this one to keep pieces of beads from entering the shoebox. |

While that might work well enough, I built my own from 1 1/2" iron pipe with fittings and only spent $17 . |

I filter the inlet air on a cheap CT oiless compressor. 1/4 turn valve on aluminum housing and desicant beads (1/4" approx, just bake them to dry and free leftovers from work) and keep it on the ground. I use a coiled hose up to the bench to the PA inline filter with color change beads on the inlet of shoebox. Have never seen evidence of moisture in any tank or gun. I Live in Northern Ab and get lots of varied weather. Keep in mind i heat the garage with radiant heat so it is already dry. |

I don't have that pump but I can tell you what I did to solve my compressed air moisture problem which was primarily sandblasting but also painting. I used one of those water filter cans that you usually find under the sink with whatever brand water filter. They unscrew and take whatever various filters. I cap one hole in the top, put a 1/4npt in the other, then drill/tap 1/4 npt in the bottom. Then I fill it with desiccant which I had in convenient little paper bags used for packaging military crap. It seemed to me that it was just kitty litter. So I just packed the bags in there and used it as you'd imagine. The bags get wet starting at the inlet side so when ~1/2 way thru I replaced with dry ones. I simply baked them in the oven to dry btw. It's been ages and I've lost or ruined all my bags, and I'm going to make another one here soon so I plan on using kitty litter. I rekon I should shake it/blow on it to get most of the dust out, then pack some cloth at the bottom (exit) to catch dust and I figured I'd put the litter in a sock. I might even line the bottom with a vacuum bag, I have some that are supposed to catch super fine dust. And/or put the litter in a vac bag. Of course you'd put this after your 120psi pump so it has something to catch. Not sure about the psi the rating of these water filters but I'm sure a new one has it on there. I took mine past 150 to check and it was unfazed. That and being use for years it never leaked or anything. It's only fault was mine; I loaned it out.... never to be seen again along with a zillion other things throughout my life. I can tell you it was 99% better than anything I've ever see or tried before. Everything else was a total waste of time and $. The one I'm making now is for a friend that like many people has tried everything w/o luck, or the device was too much $ for how long it lasted. For example he bought something similar which worked great but very short lived. It was expensive, it saturated very quickly and is not reusable. Kitty litter is reusable if you want, but pretty cheap. Plus the size of the unit I used means it holds a lot of water which was a biggie for me. For an airgun I'd imagine you could buy/make a much smaller container, maybe some pvc pipe? Just remember that you have dust to worry about, and that once kitty litter gets wet it's gooey so once saturated enough that will exit the container. As long as you check it often you'll get a feel for how long it lasts. |

Put your equipment in a small room with a dehumidifier in it, keep it set low. This will eliminate a lot of your moisture problems. This is what I do with my motorized Hill pump, room kept at or below 45% humidity, the descicant in the pump filter is still the original stuff so it is not doing anything but if I keep the humidity low I have no moisture problems. |
