Why are ads marked SOLD in the For Sale section not deleted?

I'm sure there's a good reason but some date back to last year...

Why are they not left "as is" to help out with other sales to show what items sold as in the past??

I thought that this was forum policy....

I agree.

And I've noticed that posters were going back and removing the sale amount with the word "SOLD". I don't think there is any reason why someone should have to do this. If someone could come up with a good reason I'm all ears.

And while we are on the topic .............. for those that are selling items, if would benfit the community if you were to put the word SOLD in the subject heading of the ad as well so that I don't have to open it up and scroll down only to find out the item has sold.

Cheers,
FACE

Best to keep them. On a other gun forum I was on post got deleted and 2 time I got burned one time listing was for 3 CZ75 clips and I only got 2 but after posting was deleted I had no way of proving it was 3 and not 2.

after that I bought a big lot of stuff and only was shipped 80% of the lot but since post got deleted even before I could complained theres nothing I could do.

Now I have learned and take a SS of any posting i'm interested in.

Frank's got it. It's a public record of the ad for that reason. and it's also helpful to others in comparison shopping and getting a sense of the value (or lack thereof  ) of used merchandise. I agree it would desirable for sellers to leave the prices intact, but that can also be deceptive. If a seller asks $250 for an item and sells it for only, say, $175, the original price with a SOLD post provides potentially deceiving information. We could also ask sellers to post, "SOLD for $175," but that is a disadvantage to sellers in that there may be several reasons a seller accepts an offer lower than asking price. In other words...

... the status-quo is fine, but I do agree that making a habit of posting "SOLD" in the subject line is a good practice.

However, and in addition, I'd also like to see posting privileges to for sale posts reinstated; but it is also crystal clear to me why they were suspended in the first place. The most positive outcome of available posting privileges is for members to provide and/or query details omitted or perhaps unclearly stated by the poster. In the for sale thread, the same principles of common sense should apply as they do with comments regarding other forums, suppliers, or other members: be nice, be helpful (informative) in a supportive manner, or STFU (in other words, offering negative reviews on the product or the seller are restricted to the appropriate forum [e.g., member feedback and general airgun discussion or equipment reviews]). Controlled implementation would not be difficult: The many, many members who could contribute to for sale thread regularly (with additions or corrections, or even positive comments about the product or the seller) must request privileges to post. Mod gives you the URL to a hidden post stating the terms of the privilege; click AGREE and you gain (at MOD discretion) the privilege (until you abuse it). There is a precedent for this privilege.

The problem with posting on the for sale forum was the unnecessary comments and innuendo that would take place from time to time, Gun nutz doesn't allow posting on the EE, that's what PMs are for and it seems to work fine. The point about posters unnecessarily altering their adds is valid though, it's nice to have the archive.

I don't frequent the For Sale threads often but this is the point I was getting at.
