I'm looking to buy my first piston rifle and I am seeking some advice. I am looking at the Crosman Phantom NP or the Crosman Nitro Venom. I like synthetic stocks but not the look of the NV Dusk although I have not seen one in person. My budget is around $300.00 taxes in. There are a lot of reviews on the Venom and it seems to be a nice gun. The reviews on the Phantom NP are somewhat sparse but favourable. I basically whittled down my choices to the two mentioned rifles but I am open to others. Any input will be appreciated.

There is strong opinions than NP in crosmans are of the lowest quality.
The HW90 or diana N-tec are proper choices, but may be above the budget...

I have a nitro V/Dusk in the synthetic stock and it's a nice gun but very hard to learn how to shoot. i can hit a soup can at 60 yards with mine. It's also pellet fussy. Mine likes crosman 14.3 domes and Benjamin 14.3 equally well. You can find mods on u tube for it. I did the trigger mod with the bearing from the hobby shop and really like it. Very smooth and no first stage. Be carful there if you do it, keep your finger off the trigger until your ready to shoot its touchy. Purchased mine from sails for 293.00 taxes in. Cheap scope but works. I used it for a while but soon changed it for a better scope.

News to me. I know many folx around here shooting with NP's in their crosmans and they shoot them very well. I have an NP in my Trail and I would recommend an NP to anyone.

Thanks for the replies! I have been on the Crosman website and they show the NV Dusk with a stock that I am not familiar with. The one that I usually see appears to have deep grooves where you put your hands. I like the one on the website and would probably get that one if available in Canada. Has anyone seen that particular model?

No you need to apply for the equipment exchange. Normally you gotta do some posting on threads, then apply for the EE and wait a week or two.

You can get a scoped NP .22 Phantom for $200Cdn. Shipping is free. Cabelas often has sales so you might get a better price if you wait & watch.

I have the Benjamin Trail NP with the synthetic "all weather" stock. I like it. It's not a bad shooter now that I've replaced the plastic barrel washers with metal ones.
If you're looking for a NP rifle, it is worth considering.

I assume this is PAL version. Since the NP's seem hard or impossible to up gun it is more important to get the velocity you want from the start.

That said I have seen the PAL version Crosman Shockwave on sale shipped from Cabelas for 150 a few months back. Shipping was free. Sorry I didn't move at the time. It is on sale again though at 180.

Other than wanting one I have never owned or shot a NP rifle.
