I've used 3-9x32 AO Bug Busters with great results on airguns (and .22LR powderburners)...the 3-12x32 side focus should work great too

Leapers announces new 3-12x32 Side Focus Bug Buster LINK

That's cool! Don't know if any of the outlets up here have them yet. It is unlawful for someone from the states,

retail sales or private citizen to send a scope North, over the border - apparently.

It's the US's anti-terrorism thing; It has nothing to do with Canada. Importing is fine; exporting (from the US) puts you on a special list.

The deal of scopes across the border to CDN citizens started with P.E.Trudeau and Bill Clinton. It was an agreement between those two 'leaders', put into law by Congress, that US stores nor citizens could or would ship scopes to Canadian citizens. At that time, Canada's Justice Minister, Allen Rock, was deathly afraid of all guns with scopes, leading to this 'agreement'. Rock was concerned ALL Canadian citizens would become snipers IF they were able to put scopes on their deer rifles. Yes, as noted on "The Green Mile", Rock's "cheese done slipped off his cracker". He was an idiot, like many politicians. One need only look towards Ottawa to see that today, or maybe no further than your Provincial capital.

Midway, in the states continued to sell Canadian citizens scopes for several years past the law's declaration, were caught and VERY heavily fined - $250,000.00, I was told. Last time I checked, a couple years back, Midway was still not selling ANYTHING to Canadian citizens.

That is the deal with scopes.

Of course, if you are properly licensed, you can buy scopes from the States.

As normal Canadian Citizens, you can also buy scopes from Germany, Japan, China, etc (as far as I know).

The law ruling from the States concerning scopes has nothing to do with post 2008 Homeland Security. THAT is a whole 'other' ball of ridiculousness.

Side focus scopes are more complex to manufacture than front focus scopes. I'd bet the overall optical quality and focus (ranging) ability would be lesser than their old version. Going from 3-12x vs the lesser multiplier of 3-9x will also reduce optical performance.

This new design has probably been done to improve 'marketability' than to improve performance.

I hope I'm incorrect, I'd love for this to be better in every regard - I really like my 3-9x Bugbuster. My favourite 'low mag' scope is still my Clearidge Ultra RM 3-9x Mil Dot. Made in Japan, comparable to Leupould optically, but MUCH less expensive, and has AO with mil dot (getting a Leupould EFR with a mill dot requires a trip to their Custom Shop and is mega $$)

This is not entirely accurate. It was Chretien, not Trudeau who was PM when Alan Rock was Minister of Justice

That's what I was thinking, Clinton wasn't in with Trudeau. Rock became everyone's enemy no. 1 in the west in the early 90's though I'm sure he'd been around causing trouble before that, lol

OK - but thought Rock was there & instrumental in C51 - wasn't it with Trudeau in 78 when the FAC's came into being - was Rock the AG then? The Liberals removed the part about ALL firearms being kept in a Federally Controlled Government lockup as well as the 5 year jail term for possession of firearms, ammunition or empty brass, etc.
