I’ve been considering the purchase of a Crosman 2300t or a 2003s as I’m frequently shooting 10 meter targets but some of the older reviews I have seen on these pistols indicate difficulties in loading wad cutter pellets. Is this still a problem with these pistols? It seems strange to me that a company would produce a target pistol that could not readily accept wad cutter pellets. As an alternative, I’m also looking at a Crossman 2240 as I understand it can readily be modified including a .177 WL barrel but I’m now wondering if this would also have problems in loading wad cutter pellets.

Has anyone had any experience with recent models of these pistols in shooting wad cutter pellets? I would very much appreciate any input.

I think the difficulty you meant should be the common problem (maybe we should not say it's a 'problem' at all) for the bolt action breech?!

I have lightly modded 2240 and 1322. While I using pointed pellets, as it has a sharp tip, so while you put the pellet into the breech, it's not as easy as the dome shape pellet. You have better use your finger to correct its pose and push into the breech then use the bolt to push it further then close the bolt. It you just lay the pellet on the breech opening and want to use the bolt to finish the whole process, sometimes you can feel it's not as smooth as pushing in a domed pellet.

Sorry I didn't use the flat nose pellet on my .22 Crosmans but I think the wadcutter pellet will have the same problem.

And for considering the T and S, I am not sure if they already comes with LW barrels?

If not, and you want to covert it into .177, did you calculate how much the total cost will be? For the money, I think you can get better 10M target pistol which works better out of the box without that much efforts...

Thanks for the input. I do believe the 2300s has the WL barrel, while the 2300t has a Crosman barrel. I realize going with the 2240 and converting it to a .177 with all the upgrades (WL barrel, steel breach, wood grips, new sights, etc.) would probably cost as much if not more than a dedicated 10 meter pistol, but I would then have a pistol that I could convert back and forth between .177 & .22 cal. My big concern was on just how difficult it is to load wad cutter pellets in these guns that are supposed to be designed for "target" shooting. I'm also a fan of "traditional looking" pistols and a lot of the "10 meter" pistols do not meet this requirement for my eye (just a personal quirk), although I do like the look of the FAS 6004, and the Air Venturi V10, so I may eventually go with one of these.

If you get the breech screw that under the bolt probe, Loading wad cutter isn't a issue.

Its the breeches with the forward hole that gets hung up. Normally people fill the hole with candle wax.

Thanks - I had not heard of this before or the solution, and it may help me in reaching a decision.

$250 to $300, 10m target shooting, normal pistol looks... looks like you are looking for a HW40 / Beeman P3 / P17(s)?!

I purchased a P3 last spring and am totally enjoying it - it is my only pistol/revolver that is not CO2 (1 -5 1/2 Colt SAA, 1-7 1/2 Colt SAA and 1 S&W 686), and the trigger has totally spoiled me. I like the look of the FAS 6004 and it appears to have an equally good trigger , but appears to be a little lite on power @ 360fps. I do like the looks of the 2240, 2300t & 2300s and the fact that they can be so easily customized. Just need to make my mind up - LOL.

Not a bad suggestion.

I like to have my pistols compete against each other, airgun against airgun, rim fire against rim fire, and airgun against rim fire. For example, today I shot my Pardini .22 lr against my P17, both at 20 yards (max distance at our range). At least today, the $50.00 P17 won handily against the $1,700.00 Pardini.

Occasionally the P17 wins against the Steyr LP 10 at 10 metres; in any case, the scores of these two pistols are never far apart.

I should add, I weighted my P17 down a bit with plumbers putty inside the front end of the pistol frame.

If it comes to a decision between a P17 and an HW40, I would go with the latter.

Your gun competition says a lot about the P17. I like to do the same thing - gun against gun and this is why I'm looking for another pistol to compete against my P3. Shooting from a bench rest, my S&W 686 will put pellet upon pellet but I have to date, been unable to duplicate this shooting freehand. Maybe just need more practice - LOL. My P3 is the most accurate pistol I have.

That's true... I thought I could save something by starting with the regular 1322, but end up used more than starts with a 2300s or t... because almost the s and t offers you finally bought one by one separately except the barrel in my case as I got a longer 14 inch size...
