I picked up a valve from Magnum Air, I got the Discovery together, with the bolt open, when try to pump air it’s leaking out the breech hole where pellet goes in. When bolt is closed it’s coming out the barrel…..is it the poppet or TP seal? Bill said he tests them before hand.

I pumped it up real fast about 20 times then 10 more hoping it would seal but nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

If the gun is empty then you might need a bottle to fill it for the first time. I have a gun and if you try to fill it from empty with a hand pump it will just let the air escape from the barrel. You need that high preesure from a bottle to close the valve, after you have pressure in the gun it can be filled by a hand pump.

You could take it apart and check it for dirt or metal shavings, but it probably just needs a fill from a bottle. An 800psi paintball bottle would do the trick, you can normally find them on kijiji.

I've never tried it, but if it were my gun, I'd try to remove the hammer and reach in with pliers and try pulling gently on the pin as someone else pumped. My guess is that'll make it seal.

Great ideas!, I was thinking of a blast from a tank. But I don't own anything like that except the Hill pump.

My bottle-fed airgun won't fill from zero if I leave the tank open, I have to build up a couple hundred psi first.

I remember seeing on a certain forum, a certain Alex suggested ''baking'' the valve (without the Orings) at 180-200 °F for 15-20 min to help the poppet seat... I never did it tough, so I can't tell if it works or not.

^X2.... Particularly if you have a heavier hammer spring, or have increased the preload, the hammer may be holding the valve open.... Try cocking the gun before you fill it for the first time from empty....

Bob

Yes when it's cocked when I try to fill from empty that's whats happening. i just thought Bob I have one of his heavy hammer springs in with quite a bit of preload when used with Discovery valve, this new valve has ultra light valve spring and haven't dialed it back yet to accomodate :) hmmm

The hammer does not touch the valve stem when it is cocked .

valve is not sealing or closing, dissemble the valve see if anything weird is going on inside
if its not filling up when its cocked then its not from your hammer spring

I took the discovery apart this morning and the valve inside looks clean nothing blocking the poppet. But it is still not holding any air!.....frustrating lol I wish I knew someone close by....even if I had a tank to give it a fast blast to see if it seals. Not sure about oven trick!
