Thinking about one of these (bargain alert if I do take the plunge as the 1322 I had was fired literally 3 times before the pumping got stale and it went to a guy in Alberta...).
Anyway, the Benjamin 397/2 is a possibility, any good? Lower down the scale, there are the Crosman 2100 and Umarex NXG. They are a third of the price, less than $100, are they a third of the quality?
Other options...?

I have a Crosman 760 pumpmaster and although it is smooth barrel for BBs or pellets, it is very accurate up to 22 feet with pellets with 3 easy pumps. I have the Umarex NXG APX490 also a very easy pumper with rifled barrel and longer distance accuracy but single shot with pellets. I use 3/4 pumps for 25 feet with this one.

I had a 1322 for years, then mailed it to a guy back East for the price of mailing - he sent $14.00 to cover the mail and the 2 toonies were ripped off one end of the envelope between Nova Scotia and PG. The torn envelope was in a bag with a notation "Received in PG in This Condition". Inside the torn envelope was a $10.00 bill.

I didn't like pumping the gun either and if pumped 10- times, it would bleed off to the same level each time- virtually 8 pump level seems to me was all it would hold. It shot OK for a cheap gun but wasn't enough to dissuade the feral cats from parking their bodies on the seats & putting dusty cat-paw scratches on the gas tanks of our motorcycles in the jail parking lot.

If I had to multi pump I would not shoot airguns. I just hate it.

I got an 1322 for a long time ~ I like it as it's powerful enough and accurate enough especially for the starting price ( however, some extras were added.... )

But pumping 10 times it's really a pain... I must agree one reason I bought my HW45 is because of no need to pump 10 times and have similar power.....

Sent from my LG cellphone

First air rifle was a Crosman 760 pumpmaster when I was kid...
Bought another about 20 yrs ago...thinking it would be fun...
I've shot it less then 50 times...like others not fond of multi pumps anymore...
It sits in my basement collecting dust.
I would consider a break barrel over a pump...
Ruger Air Hawk Combo .177 Cal (495 FPS) Comes with a 4x32 scope. $169.99
or Princess Auto even has a Predator .22 Pellet Gun $99.00 without scope.
Remember "You get what you pay for"
Edit: Hey why not look through the "For sale" section!!!!
Man ya can't go wrong with all the good deal in there!!! Image

I've always loved pumpers, and will always do! Takes me back to my younger days!

SSPs are almost cheating, but lov'em too! (953, 840, P17)

DDtank, the Daisy 880 is a good value if you can get one (Oshoot.ca). The 39x guns are also great IMHO. And Google is your friend

Thanks guys, I have been telling myself I like the look of the 397 and telling myself it can do around 500 fps on just 4 or 5 pumps and that would be manageable. However apart from airmec, it seems most are not keen on multi-pump for the reasons I am trying to ignore...
I already have a decent springer so maybe a single stroke might be a better idea for something that is different. Also few options though...

Got a 1377 and a MK-177 and hate them both equally. Can shoot 3 or 4 shots and put them down and grab a springer or a P17. Different strokes for different folks. Would be a boring world if we were all the same. CHEERS!

I want to own a 397 (or a variation thereof) someday because I like the way they look and enjoy shooting my HB-22 but if you got sick of pumping the 1377 after a few shots it may not be the rifle for you:-)

Yes indeed. I wouldn't mind having a go of one but if I do invest anything into this idea, maybe it will just be $80 or so in a NXG or a 2100 which is not so much if I then hate it.
As far as single strokes go, there is the 753 but the reviews aren't great for $300. Other than that, I am now researching cheapo Crosman gas spring rifles for something a bit different from a steel springer...
