Hey there -

I have an old air rifle that was used in a photo shoot but has been sitting in my parent’s basement ever since. How does one dispose of this sort of item? I’m assuming tossing it in the trash isn’t ideal :)

Thanks!

Disassemble it into parts and dump as normal non recycle garbage?! Then it will be just some scrape metals and a wood stock?!

Well cut it in piece so it cannot be used.

That's all I did with a bunch of rifles and shotguns that were un safe. Chopped them up in several pieces and tossed them in the trash.

But depending on we're you live someone might want it for parts.

I doubt usually a normal house hold won't have the heavy tools can chop a barrel into pieces....

But a single metal tube out there, I don't think ppl will realize it's a gun barrel and will just think it's some kind of water pipe etc....

All you need is a hacksaw. You want to do your due diligence to make sure it cannot be re used.

Trust me on this. I cut up 2 Lee Enfield's that were beyond rusted and a Crushed Rem 1100 shotgun. Regular ol' hacksaw went thru them all.

I mean if you really want you can call your local police department and tell them you want to dispose of a gun. But they're use down the road for propaganda saying they took guns off the street.

Once cutup they're just scrap metal.

Is that easy?! But, unfortunately I don't have any saw in the house ~ [emoji16][emoji16]

When I need one, I will take one from my company and return it when I done my job or just take the pieces need to be cut to use the big saw machine in PM's room...

Isn't that we always say the rifling is very easy to be damaged... Maybe use a metal stick to run it through the barrel then I think this gun will never shoot accurate again?!

But it will still shoot. SO its better to cut it in pieces. If you dont have the tools to completely destroy it. Find someone that does.

Use it as a hammer. Wrap it around the tree. Crush the reciever. Do whatever that it never can be used again.

For chopping the barrel, how many pieces you need to chop? Remember we have the 2.5 inch snub nose revolver which the short barrel is just 2.5inches....

[emoji16][emoji16]this topic make me think about many years ago I talked with my friends about how to destroy the data in the hard disk...

No actual sience. Just destroy the gun that it cannot be used in crimes or put back together.

Barrels are just only 1 part of what needs to be destroyed. Gotta destroy the reciever as well.

For rifles I cut in 3 pieces on different angle. Than drill out the chamber. Barrel I normally cut in thrids as well, Pending length. Small the better. Because it doesnt rip the bags open.

But thats just me. If im throwing away I want to make sure that gun will never be able to be used in crimes.

Police just put it in a huge press with a wedge and break them in half.

I'm very curious too! I wanna see that thing! Why would you want to destroy an airgun?

You can’t buy a single airgun for everything. Golfers use many different clubs, airgunners need more than one gun
