I think they all do. Not like they use a super sealing cap. I just store them up right in a small cup.

Yeah, I've never had one that didn't leak. I think it's a conspiracy.

Del doesn't know me by name but i'm the airgun/blackpowder/Gamo round balls (.177, .22) guy from kelowna that likes Del's own concoction of 'airgun oil'.

Del's a great ol' guy... how great? ask anyone. how old?

I had the misfortune of having a whole tube leak out all over the bottom of my range bag. What a mess. I have since been putting my tube in one of those little plastic bags from the craft store made for storing beads.

If the seal under the lid is absortant in any way, it the oil will wick its way out under the cap, no matter how tight. This happens a lot. I keep a bottle of air tool oil in my truck cap (I'm a carpenter) and only one brands bottle leaks like that. No matter if it's kept upright in the truck. Just the splashing around while I drive is enough to leak oil everywhere. Some would say stop buying that brand, and I would say, yeah well... It's what the sell at home Depot and that's where I go..... So, yeah....

Also, I believe silicones molecule is quite small and it can get into crazy places. That's why there are silicones in penetrating oils and sprays.

I keep it upright in an old pills tube with some tissue for the leaks.
If it is silicone it is a polymer so not a small molecule but it spreads over everything due to its surface properties. Whatever you do, don't get it on a surface you ever want to paint.

Pellgun oil is just non-detergent 30wt motor oil, with red dye added.

I have both and found the pellgunoil maybe be still a little bit different from the ND30W oils... Maybe not related to applications or performance, I found the 30ND oil looks a bit thicker than the pellgunoil, and on the surface I applied to, the 30ND looks will dried a bit and became more sticker than the pellgunoil after time....

Pellgun oil is 8430 Monolec GFS engine oil. Its made by a company in Texas.
Despite persistent rumors that its got magic properties, its just motor oil with some red dye.

Well research says its 30W and same as Patty said.

I researched this myself a while back and found that Pellgunoil is basically a 30W motor oil. Googling Pellgunoil SDS comes up with a document from Crosman's site that states Pellgunoil consists of 8430 Monolec GFS Engine Oil manufactured by Lubrication Engineers, Inc. From the manufacturer's site you can find that it is an oil formulated for diesel engines with some proprietary anti-wear additive. Maybe that's what gives it the red color.

Don't believe me?

https://www.crosman.com/media/pdf/msds/ ... GUNOIL.pdf

What you pay for a QT of ND you get only a small leaky tube of pellgun oil. I don't buy 11$ bottles of fancy or fad oils. I just use diesel engine oil. Because being a trained diesel mechanics I know how dirty they are, and the additives are good for suspending the carbon. I clean a lot of parts using ATF. Nothing fancy for me..

The MSDS does not lie.
I think Tom Gaylord is the one who had suggested pellgun oil is more than it is. Sometimes its worth remembering who he works for, and what he is paid to do.

That's exactly why I switched to Gamo Airgun Oil. I have one tool box that was bought new, with the idea of keeping it super sanitary, strictly for carrying ammo, magazines, rotary clips, CO2's, oil, etc. everything you need in the field. And damn it if that Pellgunoil tube didn't always leak in it. :-x
