Post subject:  Help me choose a pellet rifle

I'm looking at getting a new pellet rifle, it cannot be co2 powered.

I am mainly a plinker so I don't need anything match grade or target model and I won't be spending that kind of money on one either.

I would have wanted a Bakial IZH MP61 but I hear those are discontinued.

I did find this though:

https://dlairgun.com/collections/baikal ... cts/mp512s

it's a break barrel from baikal which is one thing I am considering.

What I am after is a black (I like black) aesthetically pleasing not more than $159 non-co2 pellet rifle.

If you know of any I might like, and where to buy one, please reply.

.177 is preferable, but if it's a really nice rifle .22 could be okay.

Looks good, I saw that while browsing a little. Only problem is it's .22? right?

The Webly Tempest I just bought from Scott, is .177 and I'd like to stick to the same caliber if possible. Not a big deal, but having to buy only one caliber is more convenient than two calibers.

Daisy 953 is a fine rifle. Mr Marvin has some new old stock. Single shot or 5 round clip. Accurate, no special hold required.

I had a IZH 61, I just found the stock on the longest setting still short. Didn't like the plastic scope dovetail, and mounted a scope. It was too high and was poor cheek weld. It had a super light trigger w/o a safety.

I second the recommendation of the Daisy 953. You sound like a perfect candidate for one. Many people on here have one and like them. Here's a link to mrmarvins last post about one.

That does look like a great deal. Be a collector's item some day, and great gun to have.

The MP512S you show I don't like the angle of the butt. Would worry me about scoping it and shoulder placement. Brings up another question. You going to scope it?

The 953 is a great rifle, no doubt. If you prefer a spring piston rifle, I recommend a Crosman Phantom.
Lots of mods and tuning information available, and it's a tried and trued platform BAM B18/19. I've had half a dozen of these and they were all good to excellent shooters.

I just watched a couple videos about the 953 and it has one major deal breaker for me, it is magazine fed, and the magazines are rather small, so if I misplace the magazine, i'd have to buy a new one before I could shoot it again.

I did take a look at that crosman phantom dukemister recommended, and that is certainly one candidate.

I'll give this some time, check this thread tomorrow morning, and then after work as well, before buying anything. Especially considering that with the shipping I just spent $270 on a Webly Tempest from Scott.

I agreed to the 953 too~

Not much problem about missing the 5 shots mag to me at all ~ and for a very cheap price I got another 5 mags from eBay. And I usually load all of them and use an empty pellet tin to store.

And you can also put the single shot tray on it which is a very good fit and not easy to lost in any chance ~

===
In the other hand, I also agree to the .22. As for plinking purpose, the added power from a bigger caliber will DEFINITELY give you much more fun without doubt ~
