Hi,

Can anybody help me with a Canadian source for Aqua Fortis?

I am planning to make a couple of maple stocks this winter and would like to try some.

Thanks,
Hank

Look up the selection of fine wood stains from MINWAX. There's a color that is actually called: Gunstock. Otherwise sourcing Nitric Acid as you are asking can be challenging and then you need to know the concentration because that acid extremely corrosive and dissolves metals. Wiki can be useful.

Thanks for that suggestion Hawk-I.

I'm quite taken with a couple of the maple "long gun" stocks that I have seen finished with Aqua Fortis and want to duplicating that effect.

There was a local guy on this forum (DougP) who did a very nice QB stock a few years ago and he had a source for the stuff. I looked around and can't find any - hence the post.

I can get Ferric Nitrate which is supposed to give similar results, guess I will have to go with that.

Thanks again,
Hank
