Post subject:  Antique Air Pistol - any experts out there?

Greetings All.

I have ordered my new TX200 from AGS!! I hope to pick it up soon as I'm close to their store in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to getting things set up and doing a little shooting over the Thanksgiving weekend.

In the meantime, I was doing a bit of cleaning and I came across my FB Record 4.5mm air pistol. I bought this about 30 years ago at a garage sale and it ended up forgotten in the bottom of a junk drawer. I remember dry firing it a couple of times over the years. It needs a complete mechanical restoration, so I don't think I did any damage that wasn't already in need of repair.

Is there anyone out there that knows anything about this gun? I found one 2 page magazine article on the interweb from 2010 that gave a nice overview of the history. Based on the article and pictures, I think this is a FB Record LP1, and possibly manufactured in the 50's or 60's? IT's a 4.5mm smooth bore with brown plastic handles.

It's pretty worn out with loose cocking mechanism links. This has resulted in the barrel not seating squarely at the breach.

I was just curious if this pistol is collectible, or is it just a crappy old pistol?

As always, any comments or information are appreciated.

Cheers.

Here are a couple pics:

LOL! :-).

Thanks for the brutal honesty lauchlin. That’s pretty much the answer I was suspecting. The clues were: the price I paid for it, the lack of information about it on the web, the plastic handles, and the smooth bore. The one article I read said that all subsequent pistols manufactured by FB Record had rifled barrels. I’m guessing that the accuracy on this gun would be quite variable.

Back into the junk drawer, or maybe into the bin it goes.

Cheers.
