IMO, an air compressor needs to be capable of pumping a reservoir or tank in a reasonable time, to at least 3,000 PSI, which is the fill pressure for most PCP guns which I have encountered. The problem with a 3,000 PSI maximum pressure compressor is that it cannot be used to fill air bottles or tanks which have a maximum fill pressure of 4,500 PSI. That 1500 PSI "cushion" is what allows filling a tank to 3,000 PSI.
If you are considering which compressor to purchase, you might find value in consulting the spreadsheet which I have loaded to groups such as

The Yong Heng and clones, for example, are quite popular because they can be used to fill air guns, air bottles, air tanks, and some add appropriate filters to fill scuba tanks.
I have two of these, plus a hand pump. To compare some popular compressors, the Yong Heng weigh 36 pounds (my closed cooling system version weights about 10 mounds more) which make them portable but not what one would take on a bicycle trip. The YH are powered from 15 amp breaker (actually not that much) and need a 5 gallon water bucket for cooling.
The GS compressors weigh about 16 pounds and can be powered from a 12-volt battery or 120 VAC. The GS is the choice, right?
Well, not quite. They are not rated for sufficient duty cycle to fill air tanks and pump at about the same rate as a 71 year old man who is talking on the phone. (That's me, to I'm not tossing insults).
A Gx requires about 2.3 minutes to pump a 190 cc (fairly small) air gun reservoir from 1800- 3,500 PSI, while a YH will pump a 350 cc Ninja bottle from 2,000 - 3,000 PSI in 57 seconds. I can hand pump that 350 cc bottle from 2,000-3,000 PSI in 2-3/4 minutes, while talking on the phone so not even having an effect on my breathing.
So, it's important to do one's homework in order to choose the appropriate compressor. If I were only using my QB79 and Stormrider and shooting alone, I could get by with a hand pump.
