Hello Ravenairgun,

The Hawke Chairgun App has a PCP Fill Calculator that can help you with this.

Cheers!

IMO, an air compressor needs to be capable of pumping a reservoir or tank in a reasonable time, to at least 3,000 PSI, which is the fill pressure for most PCP guns which I have encountered. The problem with a 3,000 PSI maximum pressure compressor is that it cannot be used to fill air bottles or tanks which have a maximum fill pressure of 4,500 PSI. That 1500 PSI "cushion" is what allows filling a tank to 3,000 PSI.

If you are considering which compressor to purchase, you might find value in consulting the spreadsheet which I have loaded to groups such as https://www.facebook.com/groups/662705107801396 ; https://www.facebook.com/groups/505341529804038. If you haven't access, I can post a link to this group.

The Yong Heng and clones, for example, are quite popular because they can be used to fill air guns, air bottles, air tanks, and some add appropriate filters to fill scuba tanks.

I have two of these, plus a hand pump. To compare some popular compressors, the Yong Heng weigh 36 pounds (my closed cooling system version weights about 10 mounds more) which make them portable but not what one would take on a bicycle trip. The YH are powered from 15 amp breaker (actually not that much) and need a 5 gallon water bucket for cooling.

The GS compressors weigh about 16 pounds and can be powered from a 12-volt battery or 120 VAC. The GS is the choice, right?

Well, not quite. They are not rated for sufficient duty cycle to fill air tanks and pump at about the same rate as a 71 year old man who is talking on the phone. (That's me, to I'm not tossing insults).

A Gx requires about 2.3 minutes to pump a 190 cc (fairly small) air gun reservoir from 1800- 3,500 PSI, while a YH will pump a 350 cc Ninja bottle from 2,000 - 3,000 PSI in 57 seconds. I can hand pump that 350 cc bottle from 2,000-3,000 PSI in 2-3/4 minutes, while talking on the phone so not even having an effect on my breathing.

So, it's important to do one's homework in order to choose the appropriate compressor. If I were only using my QB79 and Stormrider and shooting alone, I could get by with a hand pump.

Yong Heng or one of the clones seem to work well. If you are on FaceBook, the Yong Heng Owners Group may be helpful_ https://www.facebook.com/groups/662705107801396

There is also a MeWe group https://mewe.com/group/5fc71ee67f1d500f699bfd5e

I,ve said this before and I'll say it again. You keep the temps down any way you can and the youg hen will last. Get excited and try try fill a big jug at one go , good bye. Be patient and keep your cool and , at the same time your machines. I'm not lying , it's cool to be cool . I've set my own temp as a stop guide and it's not very high. The rings on the high pressure side are some kind of plastic , so I don't push my luck. Only thing , it's not quiet. On the plus side you can tell it's running while being next door.

Ya I fill the bucket with bags of snow with the water and had it running for like 20 minutes at 30' degrees can you post videos on this forum? The top of the cylinder head and pipes were ice cold

I own two clones, and have interacted with many owners of both Yong Heng and clones, but I see no difference between them.

I'm hoping that this doesn't sound adversarial but, would you care to educate me as to why you say, "DO NOT buy the clones there terrible."?

There is a MeWe group dedicated to Yong Heng and clones, FWIW:

I might be totally wrong here but, I'll stick my neck out and say that if it weren't for the names being painted on , It would be very hard to tell the difference Some of the piping varies but I think the major parts all change. Reason being , I've found a place that carried some parts , China of corse", and they only list two model , single cly. and two cyl.Take the money you save on a clone and buy a spare. At some point you'll need it. Same goes for the hand pumps. Now of cors there are several new units out there . Not as cheap as the youg hen, and if you notice they run a lot slower. That alone will go to bat for trying to keep them alive. Way less heat.

I'm of the thought that all the newer versions of air pumps out there had, at some point run into the little red shoe box that went om pa om pa. And at about that speed. They noticed right away that it lived quite well. I say this because they all copied it. Of coarse they added some upgrades like 12 volts and such . The main thing is they got the heat under control by going slower for the most part but, also better cooling. For the most part the engineering looks good. Maybe time will tell but, it does appear to have a good start.

Just herd terrible things about them being a cheaply made clone of the yong heng. My yong heng works great and fill my 6.8 l bottle in like 30 35 mins as long as you keep the compressor cool with ice in the water it acculy functions and fills as fast just like those 1500 dollar ones.

I originally bought a Yong Heng compressor, but never used it. Sold it, and bought a tried and true Shoebox. I only run it for 45 minutes at a time.
