I have 3.. A clamp on muzzle one from China that cost me about 30$, a Chrony F1 and a FX radar. All seems to be accurate plus or minus a few FPS.

I haven't had any issues with my F1 and shooting Chrony been around for 30 years. But the rumors are true, that they shut down. So if you shoot it, you no longer can exchange it for a new one. ANY chrony with sunshade, ditch the metal rods and replace them with wooden dowels. That way if you shoot the rods, it shatters, and doesn't transfer the energy thru the rods into the sensors. Ask me how I know?

But I'm really liking my FX radar, and cannot wait for them to come out with the FX radar firearm edt. Quick to setup, compact, and no longer required to write down the numbers on piece of paper.

If you are not going to use it alot, and want just a quick check. The Chinese clamp on muzzle one or the tripod on is the best.

Do you have a link to the $30 one? I've been thinking of finally getting a basic chronograph myself. The cheap ones I see are all around $50-$60 and seem to be two products being sold under multiple brand names. They also seem to be intended for airsoft and all the reviews I can find relate to airsoft.

I wouldn't mind spending more but at the moment the places I look here in Canada that carry chronographs seem to be out of stock. Even though the company is shut down I would buy one of the Shooting Chronys still available except that no one seems to have the light sets whihc would be essential equipment since I shoot in the basement. I'm not really interested in the FX because I want a standalone unit - being a retrogrouch I dislike using my phone as anything but a phone!

The light kits are over rated. Glue washers and get some LED pod lights with magnet bases. I never had a problem with my F1 in the basement. Pay shipping and you can have my chinese muzzle one, that I dont use anymore.

Following to keep my FX App on the latest version, I found the FX Chrony really doing well on the software side. There looks some new Chinese Chrony came up in the market with low price and very tiny light weight construction plus good reviews in Aliexpress, they all lack of the software support like the FX did.

When using the FX, most annoying thing is this guy not always pick up the reading for me, and need your efforts to get it well align to your gun... Sometimes, it's REALLY frustrating

But it records everything in your cellphone and you can check it, trace it whenever, wherever you want really make things easier for you... And now, you got built in shoot string graphics too~

Well alignment of Chronys was always a thing. Miss aligned and you'll get miss readings or no reading. I have my FX on a tripod. And use the notch on the top as a sight to aim it at target. But my F1, I made a template with and use a laser to align the rest, thru the chrony and the target.

The FX is so nice in my opinion, but I have used the cheap Chinese ones with good success too.
After my last Chinese one gave up the ghost I finally sequestered one of the fx ones and kept it for myself. So nice to have the string on the phone and not have to write it all down.

I've been in talks with FX. They will be coming out with one meant for firearms, and should be in the same price range.
