Post subject:  Decent short scope?

What is a good short scope that will be fine for a springer rifle? The max length can be 10.5". My preference is a 3-9x32mm. Are the Bug Busters or the OHhunt mini-scopes any good? Springer rated? Issues with the length?

Thanks!

My bug buster has been excellent on my pal rated springers. Even spent some time on a AR15. No issue. The reticle is a bit thicker but not so much that it was a problem for me.

Is it springer rated? Price sure if good. Mildot too.

Maybe look at the Bug Buster 3x12x32 it's newer version. I have one and it still goes down to 3' to infinity as the orignal one does. short, light, the parallex is on the side. i think the recticle is a little thinner too. I don't know if they can be used on a springer.

Forgot to mention, the rings that come with the bug buster are weaver. You'll need dovetail adapters if you want to use them on most airguns which I would recommend as they are great mounts.

I'm happy with my bug buster 3x9.... I paid $127 for it when I bought it from Jeff in December 2015. I put it on a Daisy 953.

The 1st one the OP posted about looks interesting, especially for the price (in fact, the features and reticle look almost exact same to to my UTG BB)....

I see one of your choices is a Stoeger scope......I bought a Stoeger 3-9x40AO at D &R 8 years ago now ...had it on my Venom...Phantom...etc and it stills works perfect..its airgun rated so that may help...in case you choose the Stoeger they seem to be good scopes at a good price... :D

I have an email out to Wes asking if the OHhunt short scope is springer rated. The scope looks like a BB copy so hopefully it keeps the same crosshair and adjuster strength/durability. Sometimes we see scopes and red dot sights that look like exact copies of quality products but the insides are not the same. There are some cheap Chinese made Leupold scope copies that even have the gold ring around the objective bell. There are loads of cheap red dots copies of the Bushnell TRS-25, Vortex Crossfire and others. They are made cheaper to meet a certain market need. They might work fine for someone to mount on a rimfire rifle they use a couple of times a year.

I have three of them. They're riding full power springers. No problems.
But they're not compact.

This RWS-350 is a nice compact scope. I had it on a Diana 24 for the longest time until I sold the rifle. I dont know much about it, but if you want to try it out I can ship it off to you.

Many thanks for the kind offer. A friend of mine has one of those scopes and I tried it out earlier in the summer. I'm not sure if they are still available. A local shop had a few way back but sold out.

I heard back from Wes tonight. He said the OHhunt 3-9x32mm stubby scope is springer rated. I wonder if an offset mount is needed to get the ocular lens closer to the eye. The OHhunt is said to have a 3.2" eye relief. The plan is to mount a stubby scope on a new WF-600. A full length scope interferes with the loading port and creates a massive challenge to get the pellet into the barrel cone. I have to point the barrel straight down and load the pellet from the side of the port.

I've noticed the same issue with my WF600, hence no scope on it right now. I had been thinking of putting a red dot on it but my eyes don't seen dots in red dots, more of a starburst.

Have you though about using hi-mount rings.......if you just need better access to the loading port, that will help. I put a set on my HW97 for the same reason.

Post subject:  Re: Decent short scope?

I found one more stubby scope that's available in Canada. It's the Scorpion Venom 3-9x32AO. It comes with a transferable lifetime warranty, mildot reticle, AO that goes down to 7.5 yards, and target style turrets. The only issue I can see is the short 5/8" section of tube for the front ring (dealer measurement). A single screw ring like a BKL should work.
