I'm I nuts for wanting a nice trim metal front sight? While these fiber optic sights are flashy but they are fat and imprecise. They might be good for shooting at a charging bear, or something like that, but for target work they leave a lot to be desired, at least for me. I've just fitted a Williams rear peep sight to my WF600 and I really like it (though it seems expensive for what it is, cost more than the rifle). I've removed the stock rear sight but the front sight could be better for this use, the saving grace (somewhat) is that the sight has ears that protect the center blade/optic thing and this aids my eye with centering things up. Incase anyone wants to fit one of these peeps it did require the trimming of a little bit of wood to allow it to fit.

I might try to trim down the front sight and replace the center with a pin of some sort if I decide there is enough mass to work with.

I know, that is what I fitted to the rear. I still have the fat fiber optic at the muzzle end.

I can't find anything that will replace the front sight. My old Slavia 630 is dovetailed at the muzzle so it could be done with that but it already has a decent metal front sight with hood and a good metal rear sight to. My Crosman Vantage and Walther Falcon have the some issue with the fat plastic sight but in the case of the Vantage I'm using a scope so it doesn't matter. I might do the same with the Falcon though I suspect it might beat the crap out of a scope. The problem (as I see it) with the fiber optic sights is that the colored plastic bit is all ready thick enough but then there is the supporting plastic around it which makes the whole front sight very thick. You can't really file them down because you are just removing the supporting material for the center colored optic bit.

That fat front sight might work on a shotgun, sans the wings. I would cut that top off the front sight and find something better to glue on. Maybe you have a gunshop or a friend who might have an post from an old Cooeye rimfire or something similar. In worse case, you could drill a small hole and insert a piece of a nail. When looking through the aperture the post will look fine. You could even chop a nickel with a Dremel tool to make a front sight to glue on. A piece of 1/8" thick brass or some sort of scrap metal could be shaped into a sight blade. Work on a high power rifle casing to make a front blade.

That is along the lines I was thinking.

These are the sort of things I'd really like... I wonder if I can find a cheap globe front sight to attach photo shopped?

I have some airguns.

Cut the fiber supports , but leave the sight protector ears. Drill and tap for a 4-40 or smaller grub screw.

Then you can chuck in a drill and file the bottom thinner. And then thread it in. Might have to cut down a hex key to get from under. Basically a mini AR front post.

I think I have a spare AR-15 front post here somewhere. If i. Do and if I also have an 8/32 tap I might try that option first.

On the general topic of sights the old Chinese Pioneer I fixed for a friend had nice basic steel sights. Do they put these plastic optic sights on because they think we want them or because they are cheaper to make? I suspect cheaper and they suckered us into thinking they where an upgrade.

Plastic is cheap to mold up and you can sell spares when they break. For some reason the fibre optic sights catch the eye of newbees. Bling! I can't stand the fat sights and think they belong on shotguns and maybe fast acquisition handguns for close shooting.

That is how my front sight is on my Target Browning Buckmark. Just a miniature version of the AR15 sight.

AR15 front posts are 8-36 FYI. I only said 4-40 because it is small enough that it could be used as a front post.

But I hate Fiber sights on airguns, they always make them too fat.
