Hi all,

I introduced myself recently at the Weihrauch forum, but will do so again here.

I inherited a 1976 HW50 from my dad. It needed a tune up badly, but shoots great now.
It is a fun little rifle and it reminds me of my dad every time I use it. I’m getting my PAL, and thought I would get the spring change in the HW50, but now I’m thinking I’ll just keep it they way it is, it is nice to have a nonPAL rated rifle. Instead, I might look around for something else. I can’t decide between HW 95/97/98 and will need to give them each a try. It should be different enough but complement the HW50, the HW95 might be too similar and I want to stay with .177. In the meantime I’m going to put a scope on th HW50, my eyesight has never been great and isn’t getting any better.

I am a fan of the HW guns too but I don't have those full size rifles as they are too big and too heavy to me ~ it's good to have a chance of test driving before investing your money is good! And what I heard, the 97 is the best choice among those 3 guns. You can get more details from the exact owners here ~

My HW50 is 3.2kg, and easy to handle. The HW95 is only 0.2kg more, not much different and I expect it will feel great. The Hw98 jumps to 3.8kg, and I expect will be a noticeable difference. The HW97 is another jump to 4 - 4.3, really not sure I’m going to like that. Really need to handle them to find out. Also need to find out if I will even like an under level, they look more fiddly.

Maybe we shouldn't focus on 'under level' but on 'fixed barrel' which is the biggest advantage in 97's design and say so it's the most accurate springer from Weihrauch ( although all other HWs are super accurate too)... But the 9lbs super weight just keeps me away , I don't think without a bench and bipod I can shoot this gun well...

Today, a friend ordered a new HW98 to go with a TX200 already in transit, both with scopes . This could be very helpful in my own decision.

Welcome to the forum Virob! Good luck with your search for a springer. You'll have to try your friend's HW98 and TX200 to see whether you prefer a fixed barrel or a break barrel. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. It all comes down to preference and what you are going to use the gun for. Fixed barrels are heavier, but will have less recoil to deal with. This is where the accuracy comes in with the underlevers. If you look at the Field Target competitions out there in the "Springers" class, you will see a higher percentage of competitors using fixed barrel/underlevers versus break barrels. I personally use the Tx200 and it's quite hefty at around 11 pounds with the scope included, but the accuracy is consistent. Since I do not use it for hunting, I will not have to lug it around.
