I built this from parts I had here and some disco parts and a 2240 I had ordered online to try and shoot .25 pellets from some experimental barrels I had been working on. It is pretty plain other than the home made barrel and front sight, and rear mim sight. the tube is a cut off /modded 2260, and it shoots benjamin 27 gr. pellets just below 500fps . I was hopefull to hit the broad side of a barn with the home built barrel. I let a friend shoot 10 shots at the target in the pic (4 1/4 inch target?) from exactly 30 ft., just leaning off a table in his garage, didn't do too bad at all, and would like to try more distance... maybe it could get tighter with more rounds down the pipe and a bench rest. It's had approx. 150 pellets through it, So far I'm fairly pleased, and will keep on tryin.

Here's another 22xx with a home made barrel, just for the heck of it to see if it would actually exit the barrel  1-20 in. left twist as I can measure. this one spits out the .25 27 gr. at 340fps with a 6 inch pipe, AND I can hit cans from 20 feet and send them flying just for fun. I can waste a few big pellets, then I can swap the 22 barrel back into it in 2 minutes. This sends .22 14 gr. CHP at 440ish fps. with approx. the same length barrel, it's just good clean cheap fun!

Thanks for the comments, the barrels I have been cutting with a "hook" cutter and old school rifling bench I made myself just for fun/experimenting, certainly not perfect, but good enough to try and play around with. I should add that the custom aluminum breeches I have were the awesome work of member JezX, I wish I had a fraction of his talent, heck, I don't even have a mill or lathe...maybe someday.

Having at it again with the bigger lead...this one still needs to be polished out more on inside,(20 incher) but I did get a decently clean cut. I polished the breech end and shot a few down it anyway. Can anyone offer some ideas or tips for sizing, depth, number of grooves, tell me i'm wasting my time ect. ? and/or possibly an idea where to get some better quality/different size seamless tube in the valley? Also, is there such a thing as uniform .25 lead ball sold, and what is their gr. weight? Thanks for your input.

Lookin good there Matt. As for rifleing your 6 groove looks fine. As for a depth. IMHO Measure the head of you choosen ammo and make you bbl .0005 smaller. The cut your rifleing .0025 - .003 deep. Other that that keep up the great work. Havin fun with it is whats its all about.
Did I say great work...lol...

looks like it would be good , is the tubing .25 inside then you put the rifling in ? . i have some and i can get a .25 tubing in stainless or regular steel , also brass . you could run a brass liner and put your rifling down it .
looks like its pretty heavy rifling for an airgun . im sure it works well but it could be done with .002 depth and still function well at the speeds you have .

That last barrel photo looks amazing. Though I think the rifling is rather deep for an airgun. Most are barely cut.
Time to step it up a notch and go for something bigger :)

Thanks for all the great advise, I figured I had made another firepoker...still had fun though! The silver lining is that now I know that I need only do just half the work cutting the grooves haha, these are 2x as deep or just over than they need to be, but I sorta thought that was the case too, oh well, I'll cut er up and try again, I think next time, if I can get my hands on some better sized tubing I will try more grooves, and a lot less cutting. jezX, PM me some details on that tubing, I'd like to try something closer to the right size to start out with, and paddyfritz, how many notches, and are you making the ammo?
