Yes, but only the rod, while testing H&N Rabbit Magnums at 25 yards.... where they wouldn't hold a 6" group.... I have a Lexan guard over the face and so far it's never been tested....

I now have a 1/8 in steel plate covering the rear section of the chrony, and a 1/4 plexiglass on the front.

Have had no more issues.

I clipped the rear part. I'm too close to shoot the front.

Guilty.

I've clipped mine with a paintball once. Very messy.

The problem that I've recognized is that the scope is mounted much higher than the barrel. If you're concentrating on the target you can sometimes forget that the muzzle is directly in front of the Chrony. :hsmash

Not yet.

My "shooting chrony" has been graced by arrows, leaving minor structural damage. The rods show years of archery use, and it had been "muzzle blasted" off the picnic table. And it runs good, when I can get perfect lighting. Now I just use the combro, much simpler device for airguns

Been there done that.

I have a remote display anyway, but I've yet to hit the chassis...
My chrony is usually only 10' from the muzzle of whatever it is I'm testing (it's mounted on an old photo tripod at eye level). I put blue tape on the front rods when I got it, about 1/2 way up, to frame the "sweetspot" for consistent readings. 3' behind is a duct seal target box-I use with day-glow spots for an ease of aiming.

Whether or not he knows it, a new air gun buddy I met here taught me a lot without even going through a tutorial process. I'm glad I caught on, because I was shooting through a crony for the first time -- his crony!

Point one: Neve have a target when shooting for fps readings. Have a safe zone in front of your chrony (e.g., the ground, a capable backstop such as a trap a few feet in front of the chrony, or nothing, if you have wide open spaces in front of you.

Point two: Find your chrony "sweet spot," and mark it on the front of the chrony.

Point Three: Don't shoot through your chrony at any more distance than is required to avoid the influence of muzzle blast on the readings. Typically 3-5 feet is sufficient, unless you're testing a "cannon."

Point Four: anchor you gun; this is not a skill test, it's a velocity test with $250 worth of equipment in your line of fire.

Point Five: sight your shot using a visual sightline along the side of the barrel, not through a scope or sights, especially if they are on a riser.

That's all I got, and I haven't hit my own Chrony yet, either.

$0.00

on the weekend I came across a laser boreisght kit....I dont need it so didnt get it but..if you were also anchoring the gun as just suggested this would sure help with the sighting through the chrony...if you test a lot that might help prevent collateral damage.

wide price range and I am sure soemwhere you could find a 177 adaptor as well.

Do any of you use them and if not...why not? is there a reason they should be used? just curious really. I dont have chrony to not shoot. I am actaully still in the "trying to hit things" stage.
