Has anyone had any experience stripping the paint from the barrel of this gun? I've heard of using paint stripper (any type in particular?), or sanding with incrementally finer grit sandpaper, or stripping with #0000 grade steel wool. What would be the preferred method? Also I'm assuming a vinegar bath won't work because it's not blued right?

i've achieved good results sanding metals starting with 320 grit then 600-800-1000-1500 then some jewelers rouge on a cotton wheel takes a while and elbow grease but you end up with a mirror finish and the rouge at the end will prevent rust

PS: if you happend to have a chuck on a press drill or a lathe that opens the size of that barrel it will be a lot easier

I heard someone before mentioning Nail Polish Remover..

That was me. Acetone works great without scratching the finish like steel wool or worst sand paper. I used a small scotch brite like pad but very fine (it was in the small pot that I stole my girlfriend acetone from, so it's for scrubbing nails).
I found out about acetone on die-cast car forum, they use it to remove the graphics on hot wheels cars.

I know that remover is strong but didn't think it would take of paint....I was suprised.Love that Idea.I don't know how these guns are painted or any of them in general....something different.

Put a thin coat and let it sit a bit before scrubbing.

Yeah! I also saw your post about the nail polish remover and that's what I ended up doing. It worked reasonably well, but I actually used #000 grade steel wool to scrub off the paint (it honestly doesn't really scratch, plus I also polished it after with Mother's aluminum polish). The reason I used steel wool was because I tried some different brushes and it didn't really work, and even with the steel wool you had to put some elbow grease into it. HOWEVER, I didn't realize I should've let it sit for a while (which makes sense now since that's what you do with regular paint stripper), so I'll try that again next time.

With my Tanfoglio Witness 1911 I had considerably better results with using regular paint stripper, letting it sit for a while, and then removing the paint with literally anything (a toothbrush will work fine), it's that easy and takes like 20 seconds to actually get the paint off. From what I hear though the paint on the 1911 is considerably worse than the Sig and is supposed to be easier to remove anyway. The thing is after removing the paint, the metal underneath had sort of a rough finish to it which is definitely not what I wanted. But from this point on it's quite easy to sand off as it's a pretty light layer. I started with 320 grit, then 400, then 600, then 600 wet, which only took about 2 hours total. I then spent a while polishing and will probably continue to do so in my spare time.

I want to try to do my sig....so nail polish remover then fine steel wool"000"(Where to find that fine?),then aluminum polisher?

It's not the nail polish remover per say, I think it's more the acetone part that does the job but the nail polish remover can be found at the dollar store (with the small cosmetic pads and/or scotch brite pads that work great since you have to change them often).
You can find 000 steel wool in most hardware stores.
The sand paper thing isn't bad but it will remove metal and create scratches that you then have to sand some more to remove, creating smaller scratches that have to be removed by creating smaller scratches and you keep going until you can't see the scratches.
The metal may be a bit pitted and you may end up needing to sand or polish more but if you're only doing the barrel only it should be fine.
