just thought i'd share this

in trying to repair my MP 40, i needed a way to test out different material for a seal, but didn't want to lose a CO2 cartridge every time, so i came up with this, i had a spare valve stem in my garage, and a lot of spent CO2 cartridges, so i just drilled a hole in one of them, and after trimming the base of the stem, i just put it in and sealed the deal with JB weld, then the only thing i needed to do was to install the cartridge like i would if it were full, then fill the cartridge with my air compressor, the funny thing is......it works :shock:

BTW, i didn't need new material to repair the valve, i just turned the seal the other side, and it worked, its holding air now

edit; it was holding out of the gun, but not inside of it, i'll keep looking for other material, at least i won't waste CO2 while doing it

Neat idea, but I'd be worried about that valve letting go at an inopportune moment. What pressure were you filling to?

this device is only to test for leaks, not shooting, so i fill it and listen, if i can't hear any leaks, i just let the pressure out thru the stem itself, and not by firing the gun

i fill it between 40 and 60 psi, i went as high as 90 for the sake of trying it, or as i see it, not going above the psi the stem was designed to take

but you do realize that some leaks will only show up at a much higher a PSI :wink:

CO2 pressure varies with temperature, but a typical value is 900 psi at room temperature.
So, your leak tester looks neat - but will only capture the big leaks. :drinkers:
