So why is there a hole in the top of the piston ? What did you use to plug the hole ?

495fps limit.

Counter sink it and rivet or get it welded shut.

Tap it for a section of screw or bolt. Cut off bit proud and rivet peen it in place.....

All viable solutions

If you plug the hole, you will shoot over 700 fps.

It's a bleed hole to keep the gun under 500fps (Canadian law). Don't muck about with it unless you have your PAL.
If you do have a PAL, JB Weld or some other high-pressure epoxy will work (though a much less elegant solution than those mentioned above).

Why do you reckon they do that instead of just fitting a softer spring? Drilling the hole is more work and produces a far worse result. You're still dealing with the cocking force, torque and recoil of a mangum, plus added piston slap. The only thing I can think of is that they can't actually source an appropriate spring easily, but that seems unlikely.

Probably cheaper to drill a hole than to source a diffrent spring.

And cheaper than manufacturing the different/longer piston, now they don't have to make 10-15 of the long pistons every year for the Canadian guns... :lol:

Yes, the longer piston is a better method of detuning, but more expensive than drilling a hole.

I converted my quest and phantom to the long piston. Lower cocking effort and a much smoother shot cycle. 8)

It has a drilled piston and a softer spring.

Some guns still have long pistons without a hole- doesn't seem to be any consistency as to which/what get the longer piston or the hole- but they all get a softened spring as well.
