I always wanted to buy some nice wood grips for my 2240, but i didn't want to spend too much money on them so i decided to build my own, my uncle has a Wood workshop at about 10 minutes away, i've never worked with wood but i asked him if i could use his shop equipment, As of now i haven't had any help from him, except for how his machines work. Here is a couple of pics, i will go back tomorrow and finish this side and start working on the other side. For people who ask me what kind of wood it is, he told me but i forgot so ill ask him again tomorrow :)
Comments appreciated weather its good or bad

I started by tracing the plastic grips on the wood, cutting it and sanding it down to the exact size.

Then i sanded the thumb area and underneath the thumb.

I will say good work with the caveat that I too have old eyes......

What are you sanding with a oscillating sander?

I don't know the name of the machine, but for the thumb part, its a machine the has a sanding paper that goes up and down, and for the bottom part of the grip, i used a cut out tool and then sanded by hand

Rick I have one I got on sale at cdn tire and it is very useful.
I even mounded some of the roles in the chuck of my burnisher/buffer machine and use them horizontally at home.
not exactly like this but same idea...I don't have shots of mine.. yet.

Thanks Pat

Alright so started the other side, to get an idea of how it looked and shaped my hand, first off it was wayyyy to thick, i will have to cut off from the thumb side, and reshape the right side, heres how it looks as of now, and the wood is Black Walnut so still have lots of shaping to do but when its going to be done i will be very happy that it will fit perfectly my own hand. :)

As a suggestion (since I have done mine yet) I was going to wrap a piece of wood in plasticine (or modeling clay) and then work my hand into it to the shape I need/want then I would have a 3d model of the target shape to guide the shaping of the wood.

still cool to see you working it out.

keep posting.
