Well, the plan was to take the ends off two clips at precisely the correct place for them to butt together maintaining the exact pellet to pellet spacing. This is important because the next pellet to be loaded is pulled into position by the slot under the preceding just fired pellet.
That was the plan. It didn't go flawlessly. But a little filling with the glue and touch up later with a dremel and it works.
The real problem was finding a glue that worked. I don't know what is the material used for the clips but it doesn't like to be glued. I was working with brand new clips that had never seen oil, and I cleaned the ends with acetone. Because of my less than precise cutting I had a bit of a gap to fill on the top side. My first try was LePage PL Premium construction adhesive. No go. Then I tried JB KwikWeld. Nope. Research on the web pointed to guys with RC cars using Shoe Goo to patch their plastic bodies, and that it was the same as Goop. I wanted some black Goop for another project so I gave it a try. Success! But it was essential to give it at least 3 days to set up properly. You wouldn't want to pull your Jeep out of a swamp with this glued joint but there really isn't any forces on the clip trying to stretch or twist it.
Also working in our favour is the fact that the pellet isn't being fired out of the clip like on many other designs. In the x53 case it is just pushed out by the probe so tolerances aren't so critical - you just don't want it to bind.
