Diana 34 question regarding tuning

Post subject:  Diana 34 question regarding tuning
Hi...I just bought a 34 Diana Anniversary Model and through these forums have got a real interest in tuning. I plan to shoot as it is for a while and if everything acts/sounds good will leave it be till needed....but have a newby question. The tuning kits for the 34 can they be interchanged for say the 48 or the 460? Or are the kits specific to each model? Just thinking if kits are interchangable why not add a bit of zip.

I think you would find the diameter/length spring for the 48/460 models to be larger, and would not fit in a 34.

Ya I was thinking this is most likely the case. A hail mary sometimes gains results. btw where abouts are you north of Kenora? I used to go on annual fishing trips up on Lake of The Woods out of Kenora. Great country.

I have a home on the Lake of the Woods in Kenora, but I spend a lot of time in the bush north of ,Red Lake, Pickle Lake ,Sioux Lookout,areas etc.

Actually, the springs in the 34, 48/52, 460 and 470 are the same unit- you will gain nothing by swapping the spring if yours doesn't have issues.

I believe the 48/52 etc spring is longer than the 34, if so it'll net a little more power after cut to fit, if needed, but hardly worth the effort. I would just buy a spring with thicker wire... Your spring is probably ~.125" wire, so stepping up a few thou to .130 for example would be the way to go imo. It would probably need to be ~.010 bigger OD, but you'd really need to take the gun apart and measure to be sure about that, which I can explain if you need. If all that sounds like to much work you can probably buy one already cut to fit a 34, but precuts are always shorter than ideal because guns vary and the seller does not want returns. So it all depends on how much you're into working on things and how important extracting the most power is. I typically go the extra mile because I like to, but most people won't. I'd probably look at Vortek in the US for a spring (and seal) since they have a good variety, but if they won't ship to you or it's too expensive then I'd try to get a 350 spring locally and cut to size. Maccari carries springs too, but I don't think they give dimensions or much of any info so kinda useless. A couple places in Europe carry a variety of springs too. You can (should imo) also do other stuff like use spring tar and/or make a spring sheath to greatly dampen the noise and vibration. Buttons to reduce cocking effort, noise, and greatly extend gun life. Seal mods to bump power and extend scope life. Lots of stuff can be done to improve it...

If you want more zip buy a pcp gun Springer get ugly when you try to hot rod them .....


Nah not into scuba gear etc to propell a pellet. Although I do see the positives of PCP...not going to go there for my purposes. Thanks but just specifically looking at tuning 34. Been doing lots of homework here and on other sites. Will also shoot gun as it comes out of the box for a while before doing any modifications.

You should first break it in and then buy optics...500 pellets and then whatever you intend to....loike this for
1-the optics wont have to suffer 500 to 700 pellets while breaking in a new gun/rifle
2- more importantly you ll have a feeling for your rifle with open sights first and to shoot from it ....then optics
course it is just me...

Great thinking regarding the optics i.e. unnecessary wear/abuse while breaking in rifle, and probably valuable info for other members. Personally I like open/peep sights and will most likely add a Williams peep in the future. Not a big scope guy....just a personal preference.

Hi Wayne,

do not know if you have bought a scope or decided what to buy.

Since I have a Diana Panther 31 which is not that different from your 34 even though the 34 is much better looking I just wanted to give you my own personal input /experience with my Panther 31 and a scope I bought for it.

Since you mentionned that you are not looking for a big scope I would suggest you to buy a Walther 6x42 scope with a Diana monobloc mount.

I have over 1500+ pellets shot with this scope mounted on a Panther 31 and I am more then satisfied.A monobloc from Diana is a must if you wish to avoid loosing too much time adjusting it after 10 or 20 shots...It works great for me.

The scope itself is not too expensive for what it gives ;

"High quality rifle scope from the Walther Company with parameters: 6x42; in price is also the mounting for the rail 11mm. The glass optics is filled with dry Azot that guarantees qualitative and sharp image. Large diameter of lens 42mm reinforces good brightness. If you choose another scope it s all the same but the Diana s monobloc mount works marvels and the scope will stay true for quite a longtime before you ll need to readjust it due to the recoil inherent to all springers (except maybe the 54 Airking in Diana s line).
