Post subject:  Hatsan 250XT - Fixing the Rattle

I just got myself a Hatsan 250XT pistol as an early xmas gift. I'd read some reviews here, and it looked like a fun sturdy plinking gun. Which it is, but one thing that proved to be a bit of a peeve was that it rattled - loose parts.

Basically most of the rattling was from the fake bolt - this is a metal part which as near as I can tell is 100% cosmetic. I removed it and the pistol still worked just fine, but didn't look so good.

It really looks best with the bolt in place, but I really didn't like the rattling. So I came up with a really simple non-permanent way to stop the rattling.

While I was at it, I made a little cosmetic change: polishing the part of the bolt that is visible through the 'ejection port'. (I can't take credit for this, I saw someone else had done this when I was researching the pistol.)

Polishing the bolt was easy, I just used some 400 then 600 grit emery paper to remove the black paint and give the pot-metal a sort of brushed / polished look.

Then to fix the rattling, I added pieces of black electrical tape to the areas indicated. I used just a single layer of tape, except along the side opposite the 'ejection port' where I used two layers, in thin strips. You may need to view the full-size images, the black tape isn't all that visible on the black paint.

The end result is a lot better. There is still something small that rattles (part of the hammer I assembly I think) and I think it looks a bit smarter too.

Cheers!

I agree, rattles and other strange noises can be really annoying. Good solution. What's it like to shoot?

It's fun to shoot. A little bit quieter than my other CO2 pistols.

It's accurate enough at 'indoor range' eg. 20 - 30 feet.

Loading the magazine is a bit cumbersome though, it needs a way to hold the follower down. Next mod, perhaps.

Somebody (sorry I can't remember who) came up with a really neat gadget to solve that problem. It was a metal clip that you could hook over the follower and wrap around the base of the magazine, holding the follower down easily while you load the BBs. Very neat, I must try and make one for my sig 226 which has the same problem. At least with the sig there's a widening at the bottom of the channel, so I hold the follower down with a piece of wood dowel.
