My drill press is in a bit of a dark corner and it's been driving me nuts trying to work in poor light. I thought about putting up a spotlight of some sort, but that's a fair amount of hassle, and the obvious place to put it I'd be forever blocking the light as I operated the drill. I have 12V LED lighting for the workbench, so since I already have 12V power available I ordered a couple of cheap LEDs intended for pimping cars and mounted them on strips of 1/16 aluminium. It's thin enough that I can just bend it into place as needed - low tech, but it will do for now.

There's still plenty of room to change bits and tighten the chuck, and the extra light makes a world of difference!

Was in my own shop today Jim and realized how bad the lighting is for my lathe/mill combo. Going to mount a couple of LED work lights above me that I can pivot around. Will post pics when I get back home. They look like the twin 500 watt construction lights you can buy at Home Debit. Here it is But mine is in Yellow.

I use the workshop at work a lot. It's a simple matter to turn the goose neck around on the bench-grinder to illuminate the work on the drill press...

And there are times I need to do so, even though the shop is well lit...

Those look nice Rick, should put out a decent amount of light without all that heat that comes with halogen work lights!

Funny you should say that Doc, my bench grinder is the other place where I don't have enough light. Mine's a cheap 6" that didn't come with any light fittings and it's in the opposite corner form the drill press, so has the same problem of facing away from the main light. It's hard to have too much light in a shop, eh?

I have a few magnetic lights with flexible necks that work too. Going to try and use an old three fixture bathroom light to light above the lathe/mill. Will post pics as soon as I can.
