Who created crappy rear sights for Optimus?
Here is a fast, inexpensive way to change this for almost 100% metal rear sights, which ismuch more stable and precise.

Donor: Ruger Youth .177, 450 fps; rear sights
Recipient: Crosman Optimus .22, 950 fps; rear sights

Crosman Optimus .22 and 950fps does not compute in this country, PECHENEG. Perhaps a little information about yourself in the "Introduce Yourself" forum, including your location and some further information on your mods, would help stimulate some interest among members here.

Thanks. I am not AIRGUN only guy, I have slingshots, crossbows, fire arms. Trying to keep it diverse. So I may be wrong on specific Air Rifle things

Do you have a source for the sights? I don't think anyone will buy a whole gun just to rob the rear sight.
I only use scopes so I don't need it, but for other people...

Definitely, buying another rifle, just to replace sights is controversial.
But, I think that 200 CaD rifle worth investment more than a 50CaD one.
Look on kijiji, craigslist, yard sales, may be you will find the one, which may be a donor

And no, I do not know the reasonable source for metal sights. Even Crosman doesn't sell those, neither does any third party.

I was also considering, before I took a closer look at my Ruger, ebay metal sights for fire arms, some of them may, actually fit Crosman, but you will have to do some extra metal drilling of the sights. Also consider the min-max elevation before bying those.

It is a secret for me why many firearms come w/o sights and why airguns, even when come with reasonable sights (not crappy plastic) do not allow simultaneous use of regular sights and optics?

oftentimes, the animal/ bird is coming too close to be quickly acquired with optics.

here is what I did to Crosman Optimus in order to allow simultaneous use of optics and regular sights:
1. I had to attach a weaver rail from Ruger 10/22 firearm to allow absolute stability and dead-on-zero when sighting
2. I ordered elevated see through rings for the scope
3. As previously stated I replaced absolutely crappy original rear sights with Ruger Explorer .177 cal 450fps, which is metal in critical areas: base, windage/ elevation screws




I am very happy with this mod.
Strongly recommend.
Unfortunately, you have to disassemble the whole gun and make sure screws do not stick inside cylinder!!! (very important)

if it would be at least $25 ...
Otherwise it is more interesting to get a Red Dot

JMO, but it may not be a good idea to put a red dot sight on a springer rifle. Some under-500 fps rifles are able to kill an airgun rated scope, so I wouldn't expect a red dot to last very long, especially on a high power springer. Maybe a high $$$ one, but I couldn't say for sure. If you'd be willing to invest over 100$ on optics, then why not get a good quality scope or iron sights instead?

it's on Optimus .177 of my friend - near 500 shots already, still holds up =)

Red Dots are of different less fragile design. For me the Red dot - is the fastest to aim.
It doesn't make sense to invest over $100 having $150 airgun, imho )
