Hi guys. I'm planning on converting my first ever gun, a Beeman RS2 Sportsman from spring to Nitro Piston but am wondering what kit I should use. I'll be upgrading the gun to be PAL rated so I was thinking of maybe the Crosman Quest Upgrade Kit?

Anyone have any suggestions on what Kit would work best for the ol Beeman? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi Sonic! First suggestion I'd make is to take some measurements of the internals of your gun, mainly piston ID and total stroke of the piston.

The Crosman nitro piston (non NP2) body OD is around 0.715'', body length is around 5.940'', rod length (uncompressed) is around 4.320'', and total maximum stroke is about 4''. A Crosman piston is about 0.800'' ID.

You'll probably need to fabricate a new seat for the nitro piston, be it installed with the rod in the piston or toward the rear. If the nitro piston rod is installed in the piston, you'll have to make a dimple in the piston head, or fabricate a dimpled seat for it. Depending on the current stroke of you rifle, you may or may not be able to use the Crosman parts. If your stroke is longer than 4''-4 1/8'', I believe you may have to find another nitro piston. The important thing to consider is you don't want the nitro piston to bottom out before the piston latches with the sear.

Not sure why that guy on the GTA forum said he had to cut the nitro shaft down since the shaft can be compressed down to maybe 2mm sticking out, which is about the depth of the tapered end. My guess is he had some other issue, either with the trigger or the nitro body bottoming out. So fyi, no need to cut it.
airmecs specs were on except the stroke is ~4.25", but since you want at least a couple mm preload and some extra for the trigger to function, whatever that is on that gun.
Unless they made different versions of the same nitro and that guys and airmecs bottom out early, but I can't imagine... ?
The spring should be ~$52CA from Gravel Agency.
A coil spring is still a good option imo, but however you want it.
The NP2 spring is a little shorter, shorter body so it would fit if the other didn't, and they should be much cheaper at ~$16CA? But the NP2 spring is much stronger and I can't really suggest it unless you just want to try crazy strong and see what happens. Would probably destroy any scope you put on it too.

Great info guys and much appreciated. I've been really loving my Benji Trail NP .22 and when shooting the Beeman springer. ...I just dont like the feel of it compared to a NP and im upgrading all my guns to be PAL rated...this is the last one to go through that process.

I have to agree with you..I did a pretty good tune on my pal phantom springer but shooting my nitro guns alongside a springer and the difference is night and day....I'll take an NP any day over a spring gun...
