I mean is there a way without the Crosman inter mounts ?say like some like of regular scope mount thanks

If you want lower cost, could maybe try using jb weld or epoxy putty to fasten a suitable rail to the barrel.

I do have some pretty significant doubts as to how well or how long that would work.

If price is your main objection, function is second and cosmetics do not matter... I would attach some sort of rail like Gippeto suggested with epoxy, as close to the breech end of the barrel as possible. I would also cut the shim under between the barrel and the main tube so that a clamp (perhaps just a hose clamp) can assist holding. With two clamps and epoxy, I doubt the rail with go anywhere.
