Dusted off my ten year old HB-22.
After plugging the apparent bleed vent hole, and lightening the stem return spring, I'm still "only" seeing mid 38O's for 8 pumps with the 14 gr. Meisters.

I like the design of this pistol- it's compact compared to the 13-XX line. I would really like to see mid 45O's out of it.

Hammer stroke is very short- just wondering if shortening the valve stem would get velocity up a little more...

Due to the gun's soldered brass construction, there really isn't a lot of mod options. It's not retaining air at all- I suspect port sizes are "normal" for a 22...

This ^^^, and could you ''stuff'' the valve a bit to get more pressure? It works rather well on 13xx gun, however I don't know your gun :?: :?: :?:

Valid point there, Airmec! In fact, that's far more reversible than messing around with stem length..
Valve volume is actually a bit greater than the13-XX series, and may be the solution I am after. Pump tube Dia. Is closer to 22-XX than 13-XX, now that I come to think of it...


I'll get a try with some bushings I had saved expressly for this purpose.

Hey Doc, according to what I saw on your pistol's EVP, the valve seems to be a removable, cartridge, pointed-nose type (in brass I guess). If the diagram is reliable, I believe it could be flat-topped, which could also help, as I'm sure you know :wink:

I can sure identify with your tag line.

Yes, you are right about the valve being a cartridge type. There is no transfer port- air flows around the valve body. It is sealed with o rings on both ends. Seal on hammer end is a skimpy little thing...

With a volume reduction of 33% in the valve, I lost 40 fps at 8 pumps, but gained a second shot at 191 fps. :rolleyes:

I took the chain link roller out, and returned the pistol to factory configuration....

Until I can come up with new ideas. In a bit of a quandary right now. The pistol is accurate, and the sights are almost readily visible to these geezer eyes. I'd like to end up with it in a shoulder rig for splorking close range ruffled and sharptailed grouse while l'm on stand for deer...

Tried last night to get that valve into a 22-XX tube, and it's even too big for that by .003. Hmm...
