Post subject:	2200 Accurize?
Before I turn this thing into another conversion.... Has any one had success getting these to group? The reason I ask is because I'm hesitant to break this one up... Apart from the trigger, the ergonomics are pretty nice, and the rifle as is, almost fits me. Spent close to 3 hours with it tonight trying to get consistency out of it, and not much luck. It seems to like the JSB heavy at low 500's, but there's a serious problem with bad fliers. 3 or 4 will go into 1/8" and then there's 1 or 2 fliers that spread the group to + 6". I noticed the same thing Friday when I had it at the gravel pit. It hits very hard for a cup piston .22. My options seem to be: Order in a new bbl for it Use the decent bbl from the 2100 and convert to .177 Modify the gun to take a tight shootin 24" 22-60 bbl I have here Or retire the whole works except for the tube and do another conversion build I think I may be able to finagle a much improved trigger for it- which may help. I'm still going to have to upgrade the bbl- what's there is unevenly worn. Any ideas and all comments more than welcome! -D.S.

I'm guessing that you have already checked for a burr in the barrel at the transfer port hole.

Did notice low spots in the rifling. Gun was bought used at a show a couple of years ago. Still have to take a loupe look at the crown. It's possible projectiles other than .22 pellets were fired through it... I was a kid once myself, and anything's possible. This is one of the older late 70's models with the blued shroud around the bbl, and I like the looks. I'll have to find out if .22 soda straw bbls are even still being made and available. I guess what I'm really trying to find out is if these guns were ever capable shooters. Not looking for competition ability here- just something that hits reliably.... There's no pressure on this project yet. Just looking for positive feedback on the gun. -D.S.

For starters, add stabilizer bushings to the straw barrel. Two or three bushings un-evenly distributed along the length does wonders.

If you have the tools and skills for it, I would modify the gun to take another type of barrel. The straw barrels are not known to be very accurate.

Pulled the bbl tonight and found a bit of a hare's tooth gnarl burr on the crown. Cleaned and polished it out with #600, and then #1000 auto body abrasive over a brass round head screw. Ran a pellet through from the rear on a cleaning rod. The JSB 18.1 gr Heavy ran tight for the first inch and half, and then pretty well free fell through the rest. No increase in resistance at the muzzle area. Found the bore leaded. Brake cleaned the lead out, and there's still low spots to the rifling. Swapped out the over-sized sear spring for something a little more user friendly. I'll bench it again tomorrow night, and see if there's any improvement... If I can find a properly sized idler bearing, I may try to turn down a heavier bbl in the d.p. to fit, and open up the bbl block a shade or two. There ain't a lot of beef there- but I have plenty of time to plan this out, if I have to. -D.S.

3/8" is about the max the bbl block can be opened to. (BTDT made the tool ) Sealing the t-port and stabilizing the pump tube to clamshell and bbl band will help.

Sounds interesting! Will have to nudge up the run-out gauge against the d.p... she's been acting up a bit lately with ovalized holes. Not done for yet, but it's probably going to take a while... There's still a trip to Luke's Machinery in the cards for me, sort of soonish -D.S.

Getting there, a bit: Overall group size is reduced to about 1 1/8".... This is why I hesitate to break the gun up: I'll shoot it a bit more. Some bbls need to be shot a bit to come to group. If no success by then, will try the .177 bbl in it... -D.S.

Add a couple of these to the straw barrel inside the shroud. They will tighten your groups.
