My Crosman .22 barrel arrived from CSS today. I've been waiting to attempt a barrel upgrade on one of my P17's.
So I shoved my other projects further onto the work table and started tinkering.
Cut the barrel down to the length I wanted (25cm)and started to copy the OEM barrel.
This is as far as I got tonite...

Interesting project :) . I'll be following this thread!

Did you made a cut-out (yet) in the lower frame to clear the barrel when you open the pistol?

your putting a .22 barrel on a P-17 you do realize your FPS will drop significantly
the P-17 with a very light .177 pellet shoots at best 420fps...stock

Interesting! Actually I want to replace a longer barrel for the P17 for a long time (uhh... not that long as I owned my P17 for a very short time though) as I think the design of the stock P17 looks has no limit on the barrel length. maybe the 24 inch 1377 barrel won't be that fit but I think maybe a 10 inch barrel will fit better. And I like the look of the extended barrel out of the frame ~

Did a little more this afternoon.
Dry fit the barrel a bunch of times. Drilled a #21 for a 10-32 NF tap in the front cocking lever/barrel cover.
This will help hold the barrel against the Breech O Ring. I'm on the hunt for a Hex set screw tomorrow.
Looks like it was cased for a set screw but never taped at the factory.
Did a pre assembly and found it to be some what nose heavy so I epoxied some lead shot to the inside bottom of the grip.
It balances nicely on the trigger now.
Did some other mods will list later.
Edit: Yes the barrel clears the bottom frame.

I gotta make one one now.

Time to fabricate a make shift lathe. Cut down a 10.1" barrel.

She's finished
I was waiting to pick up a hex set screw tomorrow to hold the barrel in place. But realized during supper I had a whole bunch!!!
Borrowed one from a wheel collar off one of my RC model planes.
Set the barrel to properly seal against the Oring. Tighten up the set screw and ran a couple of pellets through her.
My sound meter does not record max decibels (too old) or I'd post results. It has about the same snap with the .22 pellet leaving the barrel as the .177...maybe a bit quieter.
But the sound of it hitting the target is a lot louder !!!
Man I love this thing !!! It hits hard !!! I'll sight it in tomorrow.
Okay so the other Mods I did.
-JB welded the intake air hole closed on the piston cylinder.
-Removed the Auto safety (pull trigger when opening piston to obtain air though breech)
-Ported the air hole in the back/bottom of the air cylinder larger.
-Ported the Breech hole larger.
-Port and polished internals.
Pretty sure this is gonna be my Fav for awhile !!!! Image

Found some time to put some more lead down range. I'm very pleased with everything so far. But I only have Crosman .22 domed and Crosman hollow point 14.3gr to shoot.
My next order I want to get a variety of different pellets to try.
For those that need a FPS rating on the .22 barrel... not excepting my Caldwell Chrony to arrive till the new year and will post results then.

Not sure how to take that Ace??? Image

Yes I am fully aware of a drop in FPS...It's not always about speed...Right?

It's "All Good" my friend...just wasn't sure myself. Image

I was thinking while shooting the other day how FPS and FPE are correlated.
If I was to do the P17-P22 mod again and I had my Chrony...I think I would only do one mod at a time. And then record the results.
If I had a drop in .22 barrel and tested. I believe although the fps would drop the FPE would remain the same now using a 14.3g pellet. Image
Then adding another 7cm of barrel would make a difference to FPS and FPE. Need a Chrony to prove.
All other Mod could have been proven too...one at a time.
But for now it is just a joy to shot and my arms are getting stronger every day !!!!

That's a P22 and the long barrel P17 can be renamed to P17-L , or the famous P17-Magnum?? lol ~
