I had a stock Crosman Phantom .22 and Vantage .177 that I did some parts swapping with and I am quite happy with the results. I installed the Phantom internals "weak spring and the short, full power piston" in the Vantage. The stock set up for the Vantage is the long low power piston and the weak spring. The Vantage is now a very nice plinker with the Phantom internals. I got a very consistent 600fps with 7.3gr wad cutters and it still retains the very easy cocking effort of the stock weak spring. For the Phantom I installed the long low power piston from the Vantage and a full power spring. I also reduced stock spring preload by about 3/4". This combination makes for a very nice shooting gun. Stock it was getting about 460fps with 14.5gr pellets. With this set up it is shooting 570fps and the shot cycle is very nice. It is shooting accurately as well. I am really liking this set up. A couple of years ago I did a full power tune on my Benjamin Classic .22 and the two stage trigger mod. While I like this rifle very much and it produces a healthy 740fps with 14.5gr I will have to admit that I like the mid power Phantom more. Looks like I will be doing the two stage trigger mod on the Phantom as well. The work never ends... :D
