Rather than having an end cap plug for the steel breech, would it be possible to have some sort of cocking indicator? While redundant to some, I think it would be an interesting feature just as a way to show the user that the internal hammer is cocked.

It would just be a simple bolt with a hole to hook on to the hammer post and a slot for the breech screw to allow the bolt to move back and forth with the hammer.

You gotta watch out when you add material to the cocking pin on those guns, too much and the pin will slap the bolt when you fire it and it can make it really hard to cock if it isn't just the right amount of loose. I think you could do what you're proposing though. Might have to trim the back end of the bolt. You could turn down the rear breech screw a bit to allow a slotted rod or bolt to fit around it better.

I think that's what you're asking anyway. Not so redundant if you think of it. Most bolt action rifles (powderburners) have an indication that it's in battery. Added safety features aren't always a bad thing.

Come to think of it, if you do it right, you might have a sort of hammer de-bouncer device there.

Anyone making those still?

If you install an SSG, the spring guide (bottom) will protrude behind the adjusting bolt when cocked.... Alternately, if you do not want to do that, you can use a very light piece of aluminum tubing (top), with a screw in the front captured between the front of the hammer spring and the inside of the hamer.... This acts as a spring guide, and can protrude through a hole in the end cap or preload adjusting screw.... If you slide an O-ring over it (like in the upper example in the photo below), you can use the gap to measure the valve lift....

Here is another example.... shown uncocked.... The rod needs to be shortened.... The O-ring is not needed....

When cocked the rod protrudes further.... If you don't have a power adjuster, just drill a hole in the end cap for the rod or tube to slide through....
