One way is to remove the front sight and slip the band on from the muzzle.
The other way is to remove the barrel, and the barrel band, then install the new barrel band and the old one, and replace the barrel. I did it the latter way at first. To remove the front sight, the easiest way as I learned from this tread, is to drill a hole just over 12mm diameter in a board or similar stiff plate (I used 3/8 plexiglas) and then drop the barrel repeated through the hole, takes about 5-7 drops and the foresight will come off. Protect the breach end, don't let it hit the floor or anything...


Thanks so much. So I would be banging the muzzle / front sight towards the back of the gun?
I’m trying to picture how this works, sorry I’m a bit confused . Would it not be less risky to remove the barrel and go from the back ?

As far as removing the barrel is that via the grub screw beneath the gun and then the Allen key screw beneath the shot tray? Does the whole rear bolt assembly have to come off too, I’d love to watch a video of someone doing it before attempting myself do you know if that exists ?

Remove barrel from rifle
Drop the Barrel, chamber first into the hole letting gravity do the work.
It takes several drops to pop the foresight off.
Make sure there is a cushion or something. in case you miss it when it pops off.

I thought to share my somewhat related experience here in case it may help others. Today, I ended up removing the barrel of my c02 .22 caliber CR600W and mounting my front band. No destructive mods needed. It came about shooting with my young son, we managed to triple load some long range gamo pellets using the multishot magazine (never again). The magazine jammed and there was no fixing without removing the barrel.

Wes instructed me on the phone to remove the 3 grub screws on top of the barrel and to be very gentle and careful as I remove it to avoid ruining the o-rings.

The screws were solid in with lock tite or something similar. Once I managed to get them out without stripping them (was a challenge) the barrel didn’t want to move. It needed a gentle but stern rotary motion to get it out.

There were 3 pellets stuck inside and the last one was pushing the grey barrel/breach o-ring open. The ring seemed ok enough to go back although I can anticipate it needing a change down the road. Im pretty sure the magazine is scrap at this point but that remains to be seen.

While it was off I slid the extra barrel band on and noticed it cleared the stock by a millimeter only if using 3 c02 carriages so the cap screw at the end does not flush when it tightens. This won’t work using the provided plastic spacer. Something to note with c02 models since the tube is shorter. I thought I would have to cut the square bipod mount off of the band to fit it. Now I can add a bipod to it! So much win!

I took advantage of the gun being disassembled and hit moving parts with some pelgun oil. Once got it all back together I did some 3 shot groups to see if things were working and if the barrel band made a difference. Being the first time I’ve disassembled this gun and was already an emotional rollercoaster considering the jam situation I couldn’t tel if my shooting was on or not. After about 25 test shots, things started to dial in. Below are pics with the added front band and a few 3 shot groups. The last shot on bottom right I was clearly tired and had enough for the day :oops: for the most part at the limited 6 yards I have in my basement, I am very pleased. I’m sure the front band would make a more significant difference at proper distances but now I’ll never know :lol: quite proud of myself , hopefully it holds up. it’s been a rollercoaster of an evening , I’m just happy the jam is fixed and she’s shootin well.

Looking good! Did you give the bore a good cleaning?
Inspect the crown? These are fun rifles to play with both tweaking and shooting. At 6 yds, you should be able to make a single hole group with almost any pellet, and a single hole .22" hole with the right pellet.

Thanks!! Did not take the muzzle off to look at the crown, although I’m sure it will need work. Im more comfortable with wood than metal but I want to get into it enough to do the action and crown on my gun. I did clean the barrel to the best of my ability with the umarex cleaning kit pads. They (or my technique) kinda suck I couldn’t get much pressure let alone contact inside the barrel. I am waiting on a patchworm kit to give it a better pass. I did however fire a few cleaning pellets through it and they took out a lot of black. T

otally agree with the accuracy at 6 yards. The pellets don’t seem to get a chance to behave any certain way before they hit the target :P. Moving some furniture around, I managed to get it to 9 yards but still way too close haha.

So today, I decided it was barrel work day. I removed the barrel and polished the breech a little.

I've been trying to remove the stock plastic front nozzle for a good hour plus now. Perhaps its the lack of hardwood, I have only cedar and pine available right now, but I've seen about 1-2mm of movement with an hour of dropping the barrel through the 1/2 hole drilled in the wood. Nothing good comes easy so Ill keep at it ! I am committed to get it off and polish the crown before it goes back on the gun again!

I’ve tried hitting the wood from the other side with rubber mallets. This thing ain’t moving beyond a couple mm. Trying to scheme up some other methods :?:

Thanks ! Good catch that would make sense , it’s just falling in and getting pinched rather than the first impact force pushing it! Will try to find a slightly smaller bit!

Well that did it ! Came off in 3 whacks with a hole from a different 1/2 bit!

Surprised the crown isn’t worse than it is!

Can someone enlighten me regarding crown polishing? Is this purely cosmetic?

This thread is now seriously hijacked.

Maybe a Mod could find the point of hijack (when Quebec Plinker started adding to it) and split off a new thread.

Anyhow, since you asked: This video gives a reasonable explanation. The purpose is to improve precision, not cosmetic at all.
I start at about the 7:30 time and polish with a hand drill. If the crown is seriously bad, you need to start at the beginning. QP's crown isn't serious, just a brass screw and paste polish should do it.
