I have a QB78 converted to HPA via a paintball tank and reg. A poor man's Gauntlet.

I pump it with a Bull hand pump. I pumped it for six months (3000 pellets) WITHOUT a water filter and then I serviced the reg and tank. The tank had water in it. I poured it out into a shot glass and got 23ml (1.5 tablespoons; 3/4oz). And the reg looked like this:

Yikes even though there was no change in performance it was covered with greenish corrosion that looked like fungus. The pin spring was worse.

I immediately went to airgunarcheryfun.ca and ordered the $20 oil and water filter. I already had a spare hose although it's way to long (= more pumps to get to egual pressure).

So here are the results WITH the water filter after six months and another 3000 pellets, much cleaner. The regulators gauge however does not want to drop down to zero anymore:

Yipes! Shows a guy definitely needs a filter, for sure! How often did you swap out cotton filters in the last six months?

Yep, looks like it worked much better after =), just curious what your filter changing regime was. Even opening the filter up between fills does a lot to dry it out, so I wondered what your protocol was. No matter, as long as it worked that's the main thing!
Thanks very much for sharing!

I went about a year, before realizing. That I didn't even install the cotton tampon in my hand pump.

I may be missing something in the photos, normally the water filter (dryer) goes on the inlet for the pump to protect the pump, and by default also the parts downstream as well.

I've used three tampons over six months. I replace the tampon when a brown stain appears on the output end on the tampon.

I pump once a week. It take 120 strokes to go from 2500psi to 3200 psi. So after six months I did 2880 strokes! FEELING BUFF!

(Oh no, now I have to pump up from zero

I will wait one year until the next regulator strip down and cleaning.

Thought of a little trick to test the output pressure of the cleaned regulator:

I connected the output of the paintball tank/regulator into the Bull pump and used the pumps gauge to check the output pressure. It's spot on at 1800psi.
