There are countless posts on every airgun forum about cleaning, so I suppose the conflicting information can make your head spin.

The best method in my opinion, is a simple pull through string.
You can make it out of weed whacker line, fishing line, twine, etc, anything soft. And old cotton T shirts cut up for patches. I use Goo-Gone for the wet patches; and an oily rag for the exterior metal.

I also have a basic wood dowel to push pellets through the barrel when I need to.
Don't clean your bore too often, the lead residue helps season the barrel until it doesn't. Then it's time to clean. Of course other types of residue are bad so get them out ASAP and keep them out.

After looking around for a while, I purchased one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/Boosteady-Cleanin ... 40&sr=8-44 on Amazon.ca - it's quite compact in a semi-hard case -works great and covers .22 and .177

Airgunsource has one that is universal (except .177) or you can get a specific caliber, they fit in your pocket great for the field, price is quite reasonable.

Yep, ive got those patchworm kits as well, pretty handy. Annoying you have to buy 177 separately, but they aren't expensive anyway.

The kit I suggested previously gives you allot more for your money and does both .22 and .177 calibre.

That one does look handy Avionmanor. Looking closer I see it also has a flexible line for pulling the patches through. Very good.

I would NEVER use a jointed rod in any gun and especially not an air rifle with it's delicate rifling.
I also use weed whacker cord, looped and secured with heat shrink tube, although the fishing line would also work well.
For my PB rifles and shotguns, I use one piece rods with appropriate jags and nylon brushes for introducing solvents.
