In response to a question elsewhere:

They are removable. They are threaded with what appears to be a metric pitch.
All 3 variants I have here were blue loc-tited in.
The extra grip afforded by the O-rings on the chaser bolt handle allowed finger tip removal.
For guys like me with severe cases of "marrette thumb", no major problems.

The other 2 shorter rounded head smooth bolt handles required a tool- in my case, the toothless section of a multi-tool pliers on the shaft below the bolt knob did the trick.

It is possible to thread them back in far enough that the threaded end will abrade against the wall of the bolt channel. A thread locker of some type is highly recommended for those who want to swap bolt handles around....

I too have a severe case of “marrette thumb”.......wonder how many know what a marrett is LOL. Now what about a “Kurrny”.......

Thanks, Im not familiar with the term, but guessing I don't have such a thumb as I was unable to unthread by fingers.

Similar to what we are using, except the 333 is a different temperature range, and lacks the leverage wings.

It's like anything else- exercise thumb and forefinger enough through intensive repetition, and they become tool-like in what they can do.

I doubt I could get the Chaser bolt handle off without those O-rings that provide extra grip...

Always amazed me that nobody ever came up with a driver bit to twist them damn marrettes with a cordless drill (or did someone...?).
Hmm... million dollar idea!

We have one in nylon in 1/4" drive, but it does not get used.
I think the design was meant to go into a screw driver rather than a power tool.
It is easy to break #12 copper conductor with it ~ in either direction.

I have ordered in a .177 version of the 600 W. :mrgreen:

We shall see soon! Once I get the thread pitch and diameter nailed, me making an extended handle could become a real possibility.

I should have known what "marette fingers" are, having worked for my electrician uncle in my 20's. Guess I just never heard the term, lol. Looking forward to what you end up with as a handle =).
I've left this one easy to remove so you shouldn't need any super strength to get it out =).

As for the trying to remove the knob. What about those rubber jar opener?

I thought of cutting a slot with my Dremel on the ball end. This will allow the use of screw driver to tighten the bolt, but it will be ugly.

Right now I just use a pair of pliers with a piece of cloth for cushion and blue Loctite. So far so good, the bolt had not loosen yet.

They are indeed metric. They are 4mm .7
The shaft is undersized for the breech opening allowing unwanted horizontal play . It should 4.54mm which perfectly locks up in battery with no fore aft play. Feels smooth like my RJMachine breech which has crazy tight tolerances.

My parts came, double threaded M4x55 rods, D8X20 round M4 nuts. M4 set screws.
Here are the photos of the final results.
I got many parts at the same time, enough to make 20 long bolts.

Nice machine less diy. If there is any fore aft wiggle room while it is in locked position a short piece of electrical heat shrink tubing will make it snug as there is about 4.7mm of width in the breech vs the 4ish mm bolt diameter.

Hi Tom

That is a pretty nice work around for replacing the stub style handles. Looks like you are just clearing the edge of the stock there...

which got me to thinking about the Mannlicher spoon handle flush style. Probably not enough beef in the bolt shaft for something like that, but it sure would be nice on a Hunting/Field rifle....
