Thought I'd share my tips on how I hide that ugly white lettering we commonly see on replica air guns. This is mainly for newbie's. The warning letters are the number one thing I try to get rid of and in some cases the logo brandings which are in white, are inconsistent with what's on the real gun. There are four methods you can use depending on how the lettering was applied 1. Bluing 2. Light Sanding ( Polymer ) 3. Spray paint 4. Sanding/grinding ( Metal ) BLUING: You will need to buy a bottle of gun blue. ( Amazon.ca offer many brands ) I've listed what I use in the photos below. Some replica air guns are made of aluminum alloys and others are made of other alloys, so I buy two different types to make sure all the the metals get a coating. Steel Bluing and Aluminum bluing. Most but not all of replica guns do not actually have white painted letters on the pistols KWC for example will laser etch the lettering right into the metal, it looks white but under magnification you can see the silver/grey color of the pot ash metal. As an example, I've used my Umarex Beretta M92-A1 The photo below will show before and after, the before was taken from a website as I had already treated my Beretta Start by using an old tooth brush and clean the area with a de greaser , or rubbing alcohol , if you don't have any, use soapy water but get it as squeaky clean as possible. After you apply the bluing, let is set in for about 2 min, rinse off with COLD water. Sometimes I have to repeat the process a few times, if you still see silver coming through, that may mean that another type of metal was mixed into the mold when they created the meal parts, so I then use the aluminum bluing, and that will do the trick. I had to to this to the Beretta below The REAL Beretta M92-A1 does noes not have the Beretta logo or letters in white, they are stamped directly into the steel. I’ve also posted a photo of the real Beretta below. 2. SANDING, The ASG CZ Duty below is made of polymer so they simply paint stamped the letter. To match the mat texture of the pistol, I used a 1000-2000 grit sand paper. As you can see below, 3. PAINT Using Krylon flat spray paint, or semi gloss...depending on the finish of your gun, is a quick fast method. I tend to avoid this one because you have to mask the area, then paint. Once the tape is off, you can see that the paint is not always a perfect match, and the paint in time will wear off in time. 4. GRINDING, This is more for the handy man, who really wants all the warning letters removed, you can disassemble your gun, and grinf out the letters, then repaint or re blue. Lettering is too white and not seen on the real Beretta A real Beretta M92-A1 below The branding and logos are stamped into the steel Here is what it looks like after BLUING was applied at least two times, using both types of bluing liquids. It makes the letters about 90% grey black, enough that you can still see them as they are etched into the metal but al least not as bright and distracting as before. Here is the before and after sanding the CZ polymer pistol There are the the brands of Bluing I used |

It is more of a really soft cream, not pasty. Nice to use. I'll have to give that one a try too, I also forgot I have Hopps Gun blue, at least if one works "ok" the others will normally darken it even more. I find the Aluminum works well . It was suggested by Denis Adler the airgun review guy we see on Pyramid air |

You could probably Google Search for gold fill for lettering, something like that. Back in the 70's there were "gold-fill" kits for sale. Some blokes were gold filling mfgr's markings on shotguns and trying to get 'extra' money for 'high-grade, one of a kind' shotguns. That happened in Vancouver. I won't mention the gun shop's name. |

H Pete It's all personal taste. It looks good on your gun, looks better then all black My thing is for the gun to match as closely as possible to the REAL firearm version. If the letters are white on the real gun, then I leave it on... if it's not...I take it off. My main thing is to match the REAL gun. You gun is not based ona ny real fierarm, so I think it great to put the letters any color you want. But one thing for sure,I remove any lettering like "Made in Taiwan, this is a not a toy, visit our website, bla bla bal" That stuff has got to go, lol. You can get gold markers from amazon, fill it the letters, then using nail polish remover on cotton swab, lightly wipe away the excess paint on the surface, but rub lightly, and only after the gold paint had dried a little. https://www.amazon.ca/Sharpie-SAN35559- ... Mike at Replica Airguns did a video on this topic a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82_7GT83ByQ Similar process. |

You can blame lawyers for all the warnings on airguns. |

Perhaps you folks can help me here. I would like to remove the white lettering on the ejector housing of this SAA without damaging the metal under/around it. I can feel that it is a paint/printing on top of the metal. Have you done this before and how? Thanks.

I suggest you buy the product I show in my posting if your gun is mostly aluminum if its some sort of other alloy, then get the super blue or any other gun blueing liquid. Rub your fingernail along the lettering, if you can feel the letters, then its etched in the metal, and steel wool or light 6000 grit sanding is required. If not you can try using a paint remover liquid. Renowned air gun author, and expert Denis Adler, give his "how to" in this article with photos, I too have the Schofield S&W#3 and it turned out great. As you will read in the article, it is important to NOT remove the serial number, EVER!!! Things like... "Made in Taiwan, visit our website, instruction manual available at... " these can be covered up, and some marking are there because of other countries export laws, like the common letter "F" in a triangle, that a German thing. See his article, I got the tips from him https://www.pyramydair.com/airgun-exper ... ld-part-3/ |
