Depends on the spring......just add washers until it wont catch,or untill the spring is fully compressed, then remove one or two.

Your better off to change out the factory spring anyway. I put a stronger spring in mine with two washers and its shooting really hard now. If you need more info we cant talk VIA pm .......

The Slavia 630/631 has approximately 4.8" of space for a coil locked mainspring.
Divide the space by wire diameter (e.g. .117") to get maximum coils (e.g. 41.1).
Deduct a few coils to ensure safe cocking.

The factory spec Slavia 630/631 has a 37 coil .117 wire mainspring.
BUT: I have seen 35 coils of .120" wire which was supposedly original.
The factory spec velocity is 170 metres (558 ft) per second.

The Slavia 630/631 Canadian version usually has a 36 coil .110" wire mainspring.
There is usually a 5/16" nylon washer in the piston.
The Canadian spec velocity is 495 fps.

An expensive Diana 27 mainspring 39 coils .110 wire .509" ID will fit
An inexpensive D & L #2, 37 coil .119 wire .535" ID utility mainspring ($6.50) will fit.
This could duplicate factory spec power output.
Techpan Seal Wall Heat Shrink on the .480" OD guide could reduce spring twang.
I would put a metal top hat with a 3/16' shoulder in this gun.

NOTE: The Slavia 630/631 has a weak piston rod connection to the piston head.
The rod can be easily bent off line causing sear engagment problems.
Overspringing a 630/631 is not recommended.
A mainspring wire diameter thicker than .120" is probably overspringing.

Seems like you really know your stuff RossB! And I certainly don't.... I've got an older, tired 630 and looking to spruce it up as well. Were can you get the D & L spring you mentioned earlier? And the metal top hat?

I ordered my D & L spring from ... you guessed it ... D& L airgun.

Great folks to deal with. This should take you where you need to go.

Does anyone have a picture of the top hat? (I've not gotten around to tuning the 630 yet, and not sure I should touch it. Max deviation is 7fps, shooting around 460fps. But it is ~20 years old.)

I ended up ordering the #2 utility spring from D&L,got it this week.Doesn't fit inside the piston.Good thing it's only 6.50,i ended up just preloading the stock mainspring. The most preload i could add and have the 630 still cock correctly was 5/8th of an inch,i also lubed everything up with moly grease shoots so much better now.No spring twang of any kind.

My apologies for the erroneous recommendation of the D & L #2 spring.
I failed to note that the .773" OD would be too tight for .778" ID of a 630/631 piston.

James Macarri used to sell 34 coil, .109" wire, .500" ID, .718" OD mainsprings springs for Slavias.

When refurbishing 630/631s I have used:-
Diana 27 mainspring (expensive) 39 coil, .110" wire, .729" OD, .509" ID
or
41 coils of .105" wire, .504" ID, .714" OD, Machine Gun Spring (rare but I have a stash).

In reparation for my bad advice I will trade you two Machine Gun Springs for your D & L #2.
PM me.

Looks like I may be outta luck for the replacement spring :( I'll just try preloading and lubing and see what I get.

harbinger - Mind if I ask what you used for a preload spacer?

I had ustilago make me a 1 inch long delrin spacer at the same time he made my muzzle brake.Spacer OD 18.5mm with a 8.16mm hole through the center,i didn't know how much i would be able to preload ahead of time so thats why i went with the spacer 1 inch, after i found it was to long i cut it down to 3/4's which was still to long then took it down to 5/8th which worked perfect.

Necro thread warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a WF600 and a Slavia 630/77 and I've been looking at spring sizes and it seems like the two might be able to interchange springs. I've been looking at the Titan XS #11 spring, it measures OD 18.8mm ID 12.8 Wire 3mm Coils 31 Length 230mm.

These seem to be the two most common measurements for the 630 spring that I can find (lower one from this forum):
External diameter: 19 mm
Internal diameter: 13 mm
Spring length: 225 mm
Wire diameter: 3 mm
Weight – 0.11 kg

- Outer diameter 18,9 mm
- Inner diameter 12.8 mm
- Length 230 mm

My stock/parts kit WF600 spring measures OD 18.9mm, ID 12.4mm, Wire 3mm, Coils 30/34, Lenght 222mm/257mm.

Would the Titan XS #11 work in both rifles?

I got bored and took the 630 apart, it was so easy I can't believe I've never done it before. I bought this rifle new in the early 1980's at the Army and Navy in NE Calgary. I think it was the first gun I ever bought myself.

Anyway the WF600 spring does fit and with a bit more preload than the stock spring. Nothing close to needing a spring compressor, just a bit of caution and a little muscle. I fired around 40 shots to settle it in then used the chronograph, it was all over the place from 440 to 500fps with an average of about 460. The cocking action became rough I took more shots so I stopped and stripped it back down. I looks like the ID of the WF600 is a touch smaller and it has begun to drag on the spring guide there were some witness marks on it. Accuracy was good despite this.

I think that either a custom spring guide or a polish of the existing one and the WF600 spring should be a good replacement if needed. However I think the Titan XS #11 would be very nice as long as it doesn't over power the gun.

From the look of it I do need a new piston seal, this one is a little rough and to my surprise is plastic and not leather.

It sounds like the 630 just needs some moly paste. A close fitting guide is a good thing.

There is almost no lube in the 630, putting back together with a light coat of molly might do the trick.
